On January 4th of this year, it was reported that on November 14th, 2011, a brutal domestic violence incident occurred in Shun Tian Gold Coast residential area in Kaifu District of Changsha City. Wealthy businessman Cao stabbed his wife Liang Hong 11 times with a knife. During the fight, Liang Hong also severely injured her husband. The trigger for the incident was merely 37,000 yuan.
On the 3rd day, Liang Hong recounted her unfortunate experience to our reporter, hoping to receive everyone's advice.
The 37,000 yuan caused the couple to physically fight.
When the reporter met Liang Hong at the hospital on the 3rd day, she had already been lying in bed for one and a half months.
Liang Hong said that the incident began on November 13th, 2011. That day, her husband Cao suddenly started hitting her with fists and kicks. The reason was that Liang Hong, who hadn't received living expenses for several months, took 37,000 yuan from Cao which he had prepared for a business trip.
The next morning, Cao proposed a divorce, indicating that he would not give Liang Hong any property, and then attempted to grab the 37,000 yuan. In the struggle, Liang Hong endured severe beatings. Cao used a DVD player to break her head and then grabbed a pair of scissors, stabbing Liang Hong's head and neck violently. During self-defense, Liang Hong picked up a fruit knife and stabbed her husband, after which she lost consciousness.
Liang Hong, who was stabbed 11 times, suffered two particularly serious wounds: one pierced into her left throat, severing her vocal cord nerve; another caused a rupture in her left eye sclera. "The doctor said her vocal cords will never recover," said her sister-in-law Yu Yani.
As wealth increased, warmth decreased.
"At that time, we both worked hard day and night, though it was tiring, we were very happy." Liang Hong recalled that in 1989, she met her husband. Although he had a low level of education and a disabled right hand, she went against her family's objections and married him. After marriage, they sold small oil goods at Si Mao Chong, sold clothes at Cai E Road Clothing City, drove taxis... Through hard work, their lives improved. Later, they started a telecommunications equipment trading business and now own three companies, multiple storefronts, and a villa.
Although their wealth accumulated more and more, the warmth in the family became less and less. Liang Hong recalled that in 1994, when she was eight months pregnant, she was beaten by her husband because she refused to do housework. In the following decade, domestic violence continued to escalate.
"Now he wants a divorce!" Liang Hong cried uncontrollably on her sickbed. She said that during the company's registration process, her husband claimed that marital relationships couldn't own shares, so the management rights of the company were solely under his control. "I have thought about divorce many times before, but I kept enduring it considering our child was still young." Now she is unsure whether she should get divorced and how to protect her rights since she is not familiar with the law.
The wife will not leave empty-handed.
"According to what the doctor said, he was seriously injured, with injuries to his liver and lungs, and one broken rib," said Cao's fellow patient. Cao has not yet been discharged and has gone to Liuyang to buy traditional Chinese medicine.
The reporter contacted Cao, who is currently in Liuyang. "Family matters are too complicated, and it might be difficult to explain clearly right away. We definitely have to get a divorce," Cao stated. He added that the divorce procedures are being processed, and the property distribution method he initially proposed has been denied by his wife. "She also drafted a divorce agreement, and she will definitely not leave empty-handed." Currently, the Furong North Road police station has filed an investigation. ■ By reporter Li Qi and intern Sui Wenli
