At 9:30, firefighters from the special勤duty team of Lanzhou Public Security Fire Brigade, police officers from Linxia Road Police Station, and 120 emergency medical personnel rushed to the scene. The policemen's attempt to persuade him to come down proved futile. Thereupon, four firemen from the special duty team had no choice but to climb up the bridge arch and tie a rope around the waist of the already frozen man, carefully lowering him down. Subsequently, the 120 emergency medical personnel sent him to the hospital for rescue.
According to our news report (by reporter Yang Laiwang, Xu Zihan, and intern Ma Lin), at around 8:00 am on March 1st, in order to reclaim his wages, a middle-aged man climbed onto Zhongshan Bridge and made an extreme gesture as if he were about to jump into the river. After over an hour of rescue efforts by the firefighters and police officers, the man who had become stiff with cold on the bridge arch was successfully saved at around 10:00 am that morning. The man was rescued from the top of the bridge arch. Photo by our reporter Dang Yun.
In the plastic bag the man threw down after climbing the bridge, I saw a statement: the man's name is Shen Daoxian, 46 years old, from Xunyang County, Shaanxi Province. He worked for a boss for more than a year but was unable to reclaim his hard-earned money, which led to his extreme behavior.
At around 9:00 am that morning, at the scene of the incident, I saw the man with his hands hanging down lying prone on the top of the bridge arch. Passers-by shouted to him, but he remained motionless, seemingly frozen stiff. According to Mr. Yang, a witness, the man probably climbed up at around seven o'clock in the morning, "still moving slowly at that time."
