Replay: From December last year to the beginning of January this year, multiple cases of harmful gas poisoning occurred among nearly 10 workers from different leather goods and handbag factories in Yongtai Village and Zhongwu Village in Dongping, Yongping Street, Baiyun District, Guangzhou City, resulting in at least 3 deaths and 3 hospitalized for treatment.

At 22:40 on December 22, 2011, a young female patient was admitted to the Department of Neurology at Nanfang Hospital. She suddenly had convulsions, symptoms of rhinitis, accompanied by vomiting and loss of consciousness, and died after unsuccessful rescue. The girl posted online seeking a fake boyfriend to go home for the New Year, offering free meals and accommodation but refusing intimacy. This patient was named Tang Xiaoya, 21 years old, from Sichuan Province. In the previous half month, two young girls at Nanfang Hospital had also died from the same symptoms. Relevant personnel at Nanfang Hospital took it very seriously. "Initially, we thought they had encephalitis, but during the treatment process, some doctors found through literature review that the clinical manifestations of one patient completely matched those of dichloroethane poisoning."

According to informed sources, from December last year to the beginning of January this year, patients with the same symptoms were also received by the Eighth People's Hospital of Guangzhou and Dongren Hospital in Baiyun District, totaling nearly 10 people. However, some had relatively milder symptoms and had already been discharged.

In early January this year, the Baiyun District government reported to the media that there had been suspected cases of occupational poisoning incidents in Yongping Street recently. According to the investigation, the suspected occupational poisoning incidents in Yongping Street involved a total of 5 people, with 1 death, 1 improved and discharged, and 3 still receiving treatment in the hospital, all currently stable. There were another 2 death cases where the address was unclear, so it could not be determined whether they occurred in Yongping Street.

A person in charge of the Provincial Health Department had stated that they indeed received reports from Nanfang Hospital about 3 suspected occupational poisoning death cases, which occurred between November and December last year.
