Between 7:00 am and 8:30 am yesterday, 13 accidents occurred due to the patchy fog on the eastern side of the 107 National Road in the Xinxiang County section between Zhengzhou and Xinxiang. Captain Wang of the Xinxiang County Traffic Police Brigade stated that the accidents caused 2 deaths and 7 injuries. At 9:10 am yesterday, Weibo user @Pandongdong informed @Henan Business Daily that there had been a chain collision on the 107 National Road between Zhengzhou and Xinxiang, attaching multiple photos of the accident scene.
At 10:29 am, @Pandongdong updated their Weibo post, stating that 30 vehicles were involved in the collision, and the affected road section was four to five kilometers long.

At around 11:00 am, reporters walked northward along the eastern side of the 107 National Road for six to seven kilometers, where broken glass and vehicle debris were scattered everywhere. Along the way, at least four large truck cabs were found crushed, and another four vehicles sustained varying degrees of damage.
According to a gas station staff member, he saw 30 vehicles involved in a chain collision while passing through the accident site, spanning from Qiliying Town in Xinxiang County to the Xinxiang service area on the 107 National Road.
At approximately 12:40 pm, under the direction of the traffic police, the national road resumed normal passage.

In the afternoon, Captain Wang of the Xinxiang County Traffic Police Brigade told reporters that between 7:00 am and 8:30 am, 13 accidents occurred on the eastern side of the 107 National Road in Xinxiang County, involving 30 vehicles in a chain collision, resulting in 2 deaths and 7 injuries.
Regarding the cause of the accidents, Captain Wang explained that sudden patchy fog descended at the incident location, reducing visibility to less than 5 meters.
The traffic police reminded drivers that before entering "patchy fog," if the distance and speed allow for lane changes, they should signal, reduce speed, and enter the far-right lane to quickly access the emergency lane to avoid being rear-ended by following vehicles. "Do not brake suddenly unless necessary."

Why does "patchy fog" favor highways?
According to meteorological experts, patchy fog is caused by localized water vapor cooling due to radiation, resembling a cloud resting on the ground. Visibility is good outside the fog but hazy inside. It generally appears in low-lying areas with high air humidity and can also occur in mountainous or rural regions on clear days.
