At around 8 o'clock on the evening of the day after, to the right and left of the public passage west of Taoran Bridge on the northern second ring road, a woman about seventy years old and a man close to fifty were killed. Afterwards, their bodies were set on fire with water-soaked kindling. No eyewitnesses reported that the two were enjoying a good sleep when they were beaten with a stick and slashed with a knife by a woman in her twenties, then their bedding and other flammable items were ignited to burn their bodies. Currently, the passage has been blocked off. The police have not yet disclosed the specific details of the case.
Around 4 PM today, both ends of the underground passage at the scene of the incident were sealed off with wooden boards. A note reading "under construction" was attached to the boards. Through the cracks in the wooden boards, one could see many miscellaneous items inside the underground passage. In the middle area of the passage, there were signs of fire damage, and the walls were covered with soot. Shortly after, two policemen came to patrol the site.
Not long ago, a young man in his twenties came to stay in this underground passage and slept opposite the elderly man. He claimed he was from Hunan and had been wandering around. "I have a life debt on me, so I'm running away to avoid trouble," said the young man, whose words did not attract much attention. "We thought he was just talking nonsense," said several people who lived in the underground passage. Last night, before 8 o'clock, the elderly couple and the "dry daughter" were asleep when the young man suddenly attacked them. "He used a kitchen knife, slashing them until they were covered in blood, their faces full of knife wounds, blood spurting everywhere," recounted an eyewitness. Seeing this horrifying scene, the people in the underground passage scattered in fear, no one dared to intervene.
An eyewitness stated that after attacking the two, seeing that they were still breathing, the young man picked up a small wooden stick and continued to beat them, muttering, "Beating devils, beating devils." The person who witnessed the killing described how she was so frightened she couldn't move her legs, eventually crawling out of the underground passage. Subsequently, the young man began to ignite the bedding and other miscellaneous items to burn the bodies, filling the underground passage with thick smoke. After the firefighting team arrived and extinguished the fire, the police took the young man away. Strangely, after committing the murders, the young man did not attempt to escape but remained at the scene.
Several homeless individuals mentioned that after the killing occurred the previous evening, the police conducted continuous investigations and sealed off the underground passage yesterday afternoon. The clothes and bedding of the homeless people were left inside and could not be retrieved. With the weather cooling down, they lamented having no place to sleep. "Even if they let me return, I wouldn't dare to sleep in this underground passage again; the scene was too terrifying," one individual remarked. The police have not yet disclosed detailed information about the case.
"Never saw them argue, but indeed they didn't talk much either," said others who lived in the same underground passage. The murdered couple seemed to have relatively introverted personalities. The son of the elderly man had come to look for him before, but the elderly man refused to go home with his son. It is unclear why the young man committed the murders, as he did not appear to have any mental illness and was generally normal in behavior.
At the north entrance of the underground passage, a 78-year-old homeless person was tidying up plastic sheets and wooden boards used to construct makeshift shelters. One man said that the underground passage usually housed over ten homeless individuals. The murdered elderly man was over seventy years old, tall with a long beard, and reportedly surnamed Liu. He had been living in this underground passage for four or five years. Later, a 48-year-old woman joined him, and they lived together as adoptive father and daughter. They ate and slept together, sharing the same bed.
Currently, the police have not disclosed more detailed information about the incident.
