The Supreme Court of Pakistan has threatened to summon none other than Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani himself in connection with the review petition on the National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO), as Advocate on Record (AOR) Raja Abdul Ghafoor withdrew himself as the government's counsel, citing medical reasons. The court ruled that it appeared the government was uninterested in the case, as non-representation was an easy way to dismiss the review petition. Threatening to cancel Ghafoor's AOR license, the court declared that Gilani would be called if the advocates' case proceeds, which withdraws the nation’s report. Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry directed the Attorney General (AG) to obtain instructions from the Prime Minister regarding what "in terms of the definition of the federation PM stands for." The Apex Court also noted that it seemed the Prime Minister had not trusted the lawyer's decision to withdraw from the case. The court also issued a show-cause notice supporting Ghafoor to explain why his name should not be removed from the list of advocates-on-record under Rule IV, Paragraph 31 of the Supreme Court Rules, 1980. The top court adjourned the hearing of the case for a day. (ANI)
