By reporter Li Wei Qiang, news report - "It's incredible, a large gecko has appeared in the neighborhood," On the evening of October 29th, a green "large gecko" suddenly appeared in the courtyard of the Putian City Seed Management Station. This gecko was half a meter long, ten centimeters wide, and entirely green. It clung motionlessly to a first-floor window as several young citizens put on gloves, intending to catch the "large gecko" alive.

The reporter dissuaded the citizens from their risky behavior and contacted the Putian City Animal Protection Center.

At around 7 p.m., as the sky had completely darkened, people in the courtyard anxiously awaited the arrival of the experts. About half an hour later, Director翁from the Putian City Forest Protection Office arrived at the scene. The staff started the car and directed the headlights at the window where the "large gecko" was located.

When Director翁set up the ladder and climbed it bare-handed without any tools to catch the "large gecko", the onlookers held their breaths for him, worried that the "large gecko" might bite him. In less than a minute, going up and down the ladder, Director翁caught the "large gecko" with one hand. A well-meaning citizen voluntarily provided a plastic bucket to hold the "large gecko."

"This is a lizard, a foreign protected species discovered for the first time," Director翁explained. It was the first time such a foreign wild protected animal was found in Putian. This lizard was of a foreign breed and was a critically endangered first-level protected animal. Its specific category could not yet be determined. Preliminarily, it was judged that someone had smuggled it into the country from a foreign market as a pet. According to reports, this type of lizard could cost over ten thousand yuan each. Individuals need to go through relevant procedures at related departments to keep lizards as pets; otherwise, they will face legal punishment.

That night, the staff temporarily took the lizard to a zoo in Hanjiang for care.
