At around 2:30 PM on May 10, 2011, Shu Wei Yong went out with his wife and sister to look for work by taking the No. 101 bus. Due to motion sickness, his wife and sister were both sound asleep, resting their heads on the seats. When the bus arrived at the Dongcheng Liuhua Park station, Shu Wei Yong noticed a pickpocket stealing his wife's wallet, so he intervened. As a result, he was attacked by three pickpockets armed with fruit knives. Shu Wei Yong was stabbed four times, and his neck artery was pierced. He passed away a few hours later. After the incident, the four pickpockets immediately fled the scene. Through the efforts of the Dongcheng police officers, two suspects, Li Mou Sheng and Zeng Mou, were quickly arrested, but the other two suspects are still at large (this case has been reported multiple times by our newspaper).

According to reports from South China Morning Post yesterday, the much-publicized case where a husband was stabbed to death after intervening when his wife encountered a pickpocket on the bus, has recently been given a first-instance verdict by the Intermediate People's Court of Dongguan City. The court ruled that the main culprit, Li Mou Sheng, committed robbery and was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve, deprivation of political rights for life, and confiscation of all personal property. Zeng Mou, who was found guilty of robbery as an accomplice, was sentenced to nine years in prison. In addition, the court also ordered Li Mou Sheng and Zeng Mou to pay over 270,000 yuan in civil compensation to the deceased's family. Dissatisfied with this verdict, the family of the deceased has already filed an appeal.

The judgment: Main culprit sentenced to death with reprieve, accomplice sentenced to 9 years

Yesterday, it was learned that the court had already made a first-instance verdict. It was ruled that the main culprit, Li Mou Sheng, committed robbery and was sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve, deprivation of political rights for life, and confiscation of all personal property. Zeng Mou committed robbery as an accomplice and was sentenced to nine years in prison and fined 8,000 yuan. In addition, the court also ordered Li Mou Sheng and Zeng Mou to pay more than 270,000 yuan in civil compensation to the deceased's family.

On November 7, 2011, during the trial at the Intermediate People's Court of Dongguan City, the two defendants retracted their previous confessions in court, claiming that they did not commit theft on the bus that day. However, the court determined through investigation that both Li Mou Sheng and Zeng Mou had confessed to conspiring with Zeng Mou Shan and Li Mou Dong (both fugitives) to board the No. 101 bus with the intent to steal. Eyewitnesses Yao Shu and Shu Wei Ying confirmed that the defendants had indeed carried out the theft. The court found that Zeng Mou did not directly stab the victim during the crime and played a smaller role in causing the victim's death, thus qualifying him as an accomplice. Furthermore, Zeng Mou's family actively compensated the plaintiff's economic losses after the trial, which legally warranted a reduction in punishment.
