Chang Ailing recalled that on the evening of December 16, before Wang Hongxiu's fall from the building, she had held her arm and run to a small shop to buy a lot of spicy snacks, which were then taken back to dormitory 605 and shared with co-workers.
At around 4 PM on December 17, a Cai-surname manager of Datongying Technology (Huizhou) Co., Ltd appeared to respond to reporters, confirming that a female worker indeed fell from the building at their company. Regarding whether it was self-harm or murder, he stated that he respected the police investigation. Additionally, he mentioned that there are indeed standing positions in the factory, but also positions where one does not have to stand, all depending on the needs of the production line. He said that the company would learn from this incident and consider improving the factory rules.
At around 2 PM on December 17, after receiving a tip-off, Southern Metropolis Daily reporters rushed to the factory premises located in Baima Town, Huadong County, and found Chang Ailing, the mother of fallen female worker Wang Hongxiu. Chang Ailing cried as she recounted that at around 6:05 AM that day, out of the originally eight people living in dormitory 605 within the factory premises, only she and her daughter Wang Hongxiu remained. She urged her daughter to hurry up and wash up, after which Wang Hongxiu took her toothbrush and walked towards the washbasin.
During the course of our interviews, Fu Mengxiang and many other Henan-born migrant workers complained that the factory rule of standing while working at Datongying Technology (Huizhou) Co., Ltd was too inhumane, which could very well be the trigger for Wang Hongxiu's fall from the building.
The 22-year-old female worker Fu Mengxiang said that Wang Hongxiu was her fellow townsman, and currently, nearly a hundred of their fellow villagers worked at Datongying Technology (Huizhou) Co., Ltd.
Yesterday afternoon, Huadong police stated that they had already ruled out the possibility of Wang Hongxiu being murdered. In the process of handling the deceased's body, the measures taken by the security personnel and the police to maintain order were appropriate. A kind-hearted boss gave 19 sanitation workers warm cotton coats.
Fu Mengxiang claimed that after Wang Hongxiu fell to her death, their fellow townsmen called the police, but the staff from Baima Police Station arrived late to handle the situation. Dozens of security guards from the factory carried away the still-warm body of Wang Hongxiu onto a car intending to move it off the scene.
Chang Ailing said that just as she turned around, she noticed her daughter disappeared from the washbasin. Subsequently, a loud thud was heard downstairs, and upon rushing to the washbasin and looking down, she discovered her daughter had fallen onto the first-floor ground.
After doing these things, Wang Hongxiu suddenly told Chang Ailing that she had been standing for too long at work recently, and her legs had swollen. After hearing this, Chang Ailing felt deeply sorry for her daughter, so she boiled some hot water and helped her daughter with hot compresses to alleviate the pain. Unexpectedly, the next day, her daughter fell from the building and left her.
Chang Ailing mentioned that her daughter Wang Hongxiu came to Huadong to work with her on October 25 this year. This was the first time the mother and daughter had traveled far from home to work in a factory. Born on October 29, 1995, Wang Hongxiu had just graduated from junior high school this year. On November 1, when the factory saw that she was over 16 years old, they allowed her to work in the "Outdoor Wear II Department."
Southern Metropolis Daily reporter Luo Yukming reported that at around 6 AM on December 17, a female worker fell from the building at Datongying Technology (Huizhou) Co., Ltd, part of the same enterprise group. The 16-year-old female worker Wang Hongxiu from Henan fell to her death from the sixth-floor dormitory. Her mother said that the night before the fall, Wang Hongxiu had complained about the unbearable rule of standing at work for 12 hours every day in the factory.

Fu Mengxiang also said that the factory rule of standing while working at Datongying Technology (Huizhou) Co., Ltd was hard to adapt to. She said that workers generally rested only one day a month, and the daily working hours were from 7:30 AM to 11:30 AM, 1:30 PM to 5:00 PM, and 6:00 PM to 11:00 PM, sometimes even until 11:30 PM.
During the long 12 to 13-hour workdays, workers had to stand while working.
When Chang Ailing and many other Henan-born female workers ran down to the first floor, no matter how they called out, the 16-year-old Wang Hongxiu remained completely silent.
