The Intermediate People's Court of Suzhou believed that the defendants Mr. Wang and Mr. Yu did not repent during their sentences, but instead conspired and prepared tools to escape from prison, both committing the crime of escaping. The two defendants actively prepared tools and created conditions to achieve their goal of escaping, but failed to carry out the plan due to reasons beyond their will, constituting preparatory criminal acts. Compared to completed offenses, they were given lighter punishments. As a result, Mr. Wang was sentenced to one year and six months in prison for the crime of escaping, to be served consecutively with his original sentence, totaling nine years and eight months. Mr. Yu was sentenced to one year in prison, to be served consecutively with his original life sentence. After the verdict, the court commended Mr. Gao for his meritorious reporting.
On a day in July 2011, the two conspired to escape from prison. Subsequently, they discussed specific escape plans multiple times, observed the terrain for escape, and Mr. Wang even prepared the tools for the escape. They planned to carry out the breakout on a rainy night. On October 3 of the same year, Mr. Wang invited Mr. Gao, who was also serving time at Suzhou Prison, to join them in the breakout. He informed Mr. Gao of the detailed escape plan and asked him to make the "key" to unlock the locks along the escape route. Mr. Gao reported this to the prison officers the next morning.
Two prisoners serving time at Suzhou Prison plotted to break out and invited others to join them, but were ultimately reported by the invitee to the prison authorities. On February 15, the Intermediate People's Court of Suzhou announced the verdict of this breakout case at Suzhou Prison, sentencing the two conspirators and commending the whistleblower.
Mr. Wang, from Lixin, was sentenced to seventeen years in prison for theft and extortion by the Intermediate People's Court of Bozhou on July 16, 2004, and entered Suzhou Prison to serve his sentence in 2009. Similarly, Mr. Yu, also from Lixin, was sentenced to life imprisonment for theft and extortion by the Intermediate People's Court of Bozhou on September 9, 2010, and entered Suzhou Prison to serve his sentence on December 14, 2010.
