When junior high school students read an essay, usually a narrative, we tend to have such a feeling: the more realistic the article is, the more enjoyable it is to read; and if the article lacks realism, not only is it boring to read, but even if you only read a short part of it, you feel like abandoning it. This is something that a lot of language teachers and some writing guidebooks repeatedly emphasize — the issue of authenticity in narrative writing. Some people say that authenticity in narratives is like a mirror reflecting life. I think these words are very reasonable.
Since we all know that authenticity in writing is very important, then how do we guide students in writing narratives so that they possess authenticity? This is where different people see things differently. Different teachers, with different writing instructions, may have different insights and guidance methods, and their effects are uneven, with some being less than satisfactory.
Misunderstanding: Narrative writing should be about true stories. This is something that a lot of language teachers, guidebooks, and writing exercises equally emphasize, and this principle in language teaching has become an axiom, one that cannot be challenged and whose authority cannot be shaken. Even further, by its language, we can infer certain theorems, for example: if the genre of this article is determined to be a narrative, then, we can determine that this article must really have its people, and there must certainly be a case. Therefore, students in their exercises tie themselves down to real people and real events, struggling under these constraints. In my opinion, this is already an error.
I want to ask: What is the authenticity of the narrative? Is it just a simple true story? Never. A narrative should be real literature, reflecting real life, but it should never be exactly the same as real life. In other words, a narrative should be a mirror of real life, but never in real life should it be a camera! This is my personal view.
I have this view because: Although the narrative reflects life and helps us perceive and taste life, it only emphasizes one feature of narrative — the truth of life; but it does not stress another feature of narrative — its literary quality. Literary narrative means that the people and things in life can be cut, spliced, repaired, refined, processed, polished, and otherwise treated. This treatment, although the original living material may become unrecognizable; however, in this case, it is still regarded as real literature. So, of course, it is pictorial and narrates true things, but this reality should be processed through literature, stemming from reality but transcending it, and reality cannot be exactly the same as the primitive person. And this true story, of course, is the truth. Only in this way, can we jump out of the old thinking and instead focus on students breaking free of the shackles of narrative, allowing them to freely express themselves.
Myth: The accumulation of material usually involves paying attention to observing life. There is nothing intrinsically wrong with this point of view, and I absolutely agree with it. Observing life regularly and accumulating material is indeed the main way. This is usually one meter as the accumulation of a grain of rice, as accumulated, only to do with a straw. But the misunderstanding lies in how we should observe. Some students say: the root of the problem is: the accumulation of literary material through observation is different from seeing in daily life; it relies mainly on the heart, and certainly not the eyes. Of course, literature observed without eyes at all would go to the extreme; some people and things need to be seen with our eyes, heard with our ears, touched with our skin, smelled with our noses, and only then can we gain a good sense. But the key is, eyes, ears, skin, and nose are just means of observation or external form fills, they are not observation itself, which comes from the heart!
Some students say: with thought, it is to use the mind to read it, including: hard experience, heartfelt sentiment, hard thinking, hard taste, heart enlightenment, and with the heart to sublimate, and so on.
Third, changing the ideological accumulated material, which is to pave the way for writing a good essay based on realistic life, but it is still not enough; we also need to note that the article has the essentials of authentic writing.
(a) To note scrutiny of every detail of the article is reasonable. Rationality is to sensible, meaning: 1, to meet the situation, that is in line with the context, occasion, atmosphere, characters' mentality of people in a particular situation; 2, to meet the management, that is meeting daily common sense, life principle; 3, but also logical, including level, sequence, cause and effect, and other internal logic. I say repeatedly, and to students: reasonable, false is true; not reasonable, really is false, of course, it is a bit exaggerated to say, really how can you become a fake it, I say on one hand, the article stresses the importance of rationality in plot and details; on the other hand, it prompts students sometimes, if not refine their rationality, then there really could be issues. Once, one of my students wrote about conserving river water as the theme of her exercise. She wrote about the Yellow River, supposedly he is a fish, and I asked her: "Sad, in fact, we have all the fish survive a few days." We have not been to the Yellow River to take a look and do not know this series up together out of the real situation of the Yellow River, it is reasonable bound to be questioned. Our home is in the Songhua River, the Yellow River imagined out of thin air with you, why do not we can see in the Songhua River as topics for writing it? This selected from around the theme of your life, it is more easily written in line with the real situation. Also, it is more realistic, are of a departure from the scope of your own life, even if you are intelligent, good at fabricating, and no matter how well you think the situation is reasonable and the end will inevitably laughable, exposing the false face of Bale. This article, be difficult, there are realistic at all. So: choose your life, around the theme, but also you have the authenticity of the narrative a necessary condition.
