Ampicillin Plus Egg Treatment for Bedsores: 19 Cases

ACTAACADEMIAEMEDICINAEZUNYI Vol.28 No.4 Aug. 2005

The difference in cure time for bedsores was significant.

4 Discussion: Pressure sores are a common clinical complication in hospitals, with an incidence rate of 2%. They are especially more prevalent among patients who have prolonged bed rest, spinal cord injuries, fractures, and elderly patients, often concurrently suffering from incontinence and hypoproteinemia. In terms of treatment, besides necessary systemic nutritional support to keep the wound area clean and smooth, local drug treatment is particularly important for shortening the course of treatment and relieving pain. The traditional method of treating pressure sores aims to keep the injured area as dry as possible to prevent bacterial infection, absorb and remove wound exudate. However, making the wound moist has become an important subject in modern medical research since it protects granulation tissue and helps the epithelialization of wounds. For small-area (less than 5cm) superficial bedsores, wet compresses using egg endometrial Phoenix clothing show good effect. Ampicillin has anti-infective and anti-inflammatory efficacy. Eggs and Phoenix clothing possess moisture convergence, nutrition supply, and promote the growth of granulation tissue, improving local wound microcirculation, accelerating lesion tissue repair. Application of ampicillin plus egg keeps the wound healing in a moist condition, aligning with the new concept of modern medical treatment for pressure sores. The treatment results show that ampicillin plus egg shorten the time to cure bedsores, reduce medical costs, and the drug source is easy to use, showing a significant effect, thus being a good treatment.
