Harmony of Human and Vehicle
Still at the same booth, the main subject is one of the two models from earlier, along with the car beside her. In terms of composition and lines, you can see the model leaning slightly against the car, creating a perfect curve that combines the curves of her body with the streamlined design of the automobile. As the model smiled at my camera, I pressed the shutter, capturing a picture where human and vehicle become one.
Highlighting the Subject
This booth used a large number of white floodlights, making the entire stage look especially fresh and natural. The photograph uses a light-colored car as the background, enhanced by a white backdrop, which makes the two female models dressed in silver-black dresses stand out prominently. The two models form a single focal point within the frame, while the other parts of the image are blurred to serve as the background. This photo uses cool tones, giving it a stylish and modern feel. Processing it into black and white further emphasizes its main content.
Avoiding Crowds
Photography enthusiasts with some experience know that photography is an art of subtraction. The frame only needs elements relevant to the theme, requiring us to simplify the image as much as possible, using minimal elements to express the theme of the photograph. With many people at the auto show, capturing irrelevant individuals in the shot can ruin the entire photograph. For example, the man holding a camera in the background of the right image disrupts the visual flow. Changing the angle for shooting produces vastly different results, as seen in the left image.
Using Light Effectively
The lighting at the auto show is quite complex, especially with spotlights, greatly increasing the difficulty of shooting. We can use the on-site spotlight illumination combined with flash to fill in light for the model. This not only showcases the environmental lighting atmosphere with a sense of presence but also makes the model's skin tone appear more true-to-life.
Shooting with Backlighting
This is a standard portrait shot using backlighting. The use of backlight highlights the color and texture of the model's hair, outlining a bright contour, creating an effect difficult to achieve under front lighting. It gives off a feeling of tranquility and naturalness, easily evoking associations with the leisure and calmness of driving at sunset. Lastly, good communication with the model is crucial. After the model cooperates to take a good photo, a smile or a word of thanks shows respect and understanding for the model. When we respect others, we also earn their respect. Models will cooperate better, and we will have more opportunities to capture better photos.
