Our agency reports: Yesterday morning, accompanied by the staff of the Pingdingshan Red Cross Society, volunteer Zhang Huijie arrived in Zhengzhou. Today, she will head to Beijing to donate hematopoietic stem cells. The precious "life seeds" will be transplanted into a 1-year-old Korean leukemia patient in Korea on February 14.
The volunteer from Pingdingshan will bring hope for life to a 1-year-old Korean boy suffering from leukemia.
Zhang Huijie, who has an attractive appearance, is an employee of the Pingdingshan Gas Co., Ltd. In December 2003, after reading a news item in the Pingdingshan Evening News about the first recruitment of voluntary donors for hematopoietic stem cells, she rushed to the blood sample collection site and donated her blood sample, becoming one of the first batch of hematopoietic stem cell volunteers and also the fourth volunteer in Pingdingshan to join the database.

Zhang Huijie said that she started participating in voluntary blood donation in 1995, and her total blood donation volume has reached 2000 milliliters. Regarding the upcoming hematopoietic stem cell donation, she was not afraid. Since being notified that she matched for donation, she has maintained a regular schedule, increased exercise, and taken care of her health to ensure she is in optimal physical condition for the donation.
In early December 2011, Zhang Huijie received a notification from the Pingdingshan Red Cross Society: her blood HLA typing data matched with a Korean child. Subsequently, high-resolution typing and physical examination procedures were quickly completed within a month. The results were gratifying: Zhang Huijie met the donation criteria.
On the upcoming February 13-16, there will be six volunteers in our province donating hematopoietic stem cells. Among them, there will be three donations on February 14 alone. This is the week with the highest density of donors since the establishment of the Henan branch, setting a record nationwide. (Clue provided by Wen Meiying)
Zhang Huijie is the first volunteer in our province to donate hematopoietic stem cells to a Korean patient and the fourth volunteer in Henan to make a cross-border donation of hematopoietic stem cells. Due to her ability to save the life of a Korean baby, Zhang Huijie feels very happy.
Actually, this is not the first time Zhang Huijie has helped others. Many years ago, she helped Ding Juanjuan, a "Spring Bud Girl" from Lushan County, complete her education from primary school to junior high school. Now, as an adult, Juanjuan continues to maintain contact with her.
It is reported that since its establishment in January 2003, the Henan Province Red Cross Society's Hematopoietic Stem Cell Donor Data Bank has recruited 78,000 volunteers, and 249 volunteers have successfully donated hematopoietic stem cells, ranking first nationwide. Previously, volunteers from our province have made cross-border donations of "life seeds" to three leukemia patients from the United States, Singapore, and Afghanistan.
