A villager surnamed Zhang reported to the journalists that the cattle in the village were usually free-range in the wild and rested at home at night. It might be because there was no fence on the bypass expressway, so they ran onto the road at midnight to sleep and got hit. The cattle that were hit belonged to the villagers of Nanding Village in Jiyang Town, including 8 adult cattle, 4 medium-sized cattle, and 2 calves. One of the female cows that had been hit was pregnant.
At 11 o'clock in the morning on the 8th, after receiving the news, the journalist rushed to the scene and saw that the accident site was crowded with villagers from surrounding villages. The traffic police staff were busy dealing with the scene and maintaining traffic order. A 12-wheel large truck with the license plate number K36939 was parked by the roadside, and there was no obvious damage to the body of the car. The 11 cattle that were hit were placed on the Sanya bypass expressway, heading from Jiyang Town to Yalong Bay, about 100 meters away from the roundabout. The scene was bloody, some of the cattle's intestines were hit out and thrown on the road. The traffic police moved the cattle that were hit to the side of the road.
According to the truck driver Wu, the truck was loaded with ice blocks, preparing to transport them from Wanning to Yacheng. At around three in the morning when he drove to this section, he saw a group of cattle lying on the overtaking lane from afar. His car was driving on the traffic lane. He thought the cattle were sleeping and would not move, so he quickly drove past without changing lanes. Unexpectedly, as soon as the car passed, the cattle suddenly sprang up and ran towards the traffic lane. Unable to brake in time, the car directly collided with the cattle. After the incident, he immediately reported the accident, and then the traffic police arrived at the scene.
It is understood that currently, the Sanya Traffic Police Detachment is conducting further investigation into the accident. The Price Bureau of Sanya City has also arrived at the scene for valuation. Relevant staff members of Jiyang Town are also coordinating compensation matters on-site. As of the journalist's deadline, the compensation has not been resolved.
