【Urgent News】When we open the mobile homepage of Baidu, we find that Baidu has specially created a Valentine's Day effect for this day. This effect is a 3D one developed using HTML5 + CSS3. Baidu is truly very thoughtful, and this also allows us to once again witness the trend of large websites utilizing HTML5, as well as experience the charm of HTML5. This should be the second time Baidu has used an HTML5-developed special effect; the last one was a dragon effect for the Year of the Dragon.
Today is the Western traditional festival of Valentine's Day, and this time Baidu has taken the lead over Google by being the first to launch a Valentine's Day special effect on the mobile version of its homepage. In fact, this is the second time Baidu has implemented dynamic special effects on mobile browsers; the first time was during the Spring Festival with a dragon effect, and this one is better than the last.
If you open the mobile version of Baidu's homepage with a more modern browser, you will see that Baidu's logo has turned into a little angel with constantly flapping wings. After clicking on the angel, a few comic pictures will appear at the top of the screen, showing the male and female protagonists gradually fading away to the left and right. Then, the mobile screen will flip to the right in 3D form, followed by a circle of red heart-shaped roses appearing, and finally, the two people come together. Clicking again will return to the homepage, flipping back in 3D form, where the logo now shows the male and female protagonists together.
From a design perspective, I think the angel and heart-shaped roses are decent, but they don't leave a stunning impression, as if they lack sufficient detail. However, the 3D flipping effect did surprise me.
I asked someone from Baidu about the technical aspects of this effect, and they told me, "Through HTML5 Canvas drawing, CSS3 is used to control the animation, while targeting different operation platforms and mobile terminals, graphical elements and animation effects are integrated as much as possible to reduce the size of the Easter egg; and offline storage technology is adopted." I remember that big companies like Baidu generally wouldn't rashly attempt to use new technologies. Previously, in order to be compatible with more platforms, they even used Flash to create such special effects. This time, they have set a good example, adding a case study for HTML5 and CSS3. I imagine that in the future, more and more companies will start trying out new technologies.
