Daikin, Japan announced the recall of 53 models of air purifiers, but it does not involve the Chinese market. In recent years, Japanese home appliance recalls almost always exclude China. Recently, Daikin posted a notice on its official website stating that "the humidifying air purifiers produced by our company from September 2007 to August 2011 may cause smoke or fire due to overheating of the dehumidification plate, so we have decided to recall these products." The notice did not specify the countries and regions involved in the recall.
A relevant person in charge of Daikin China stated that the recalled products belong to the Streamer series of air purifiers. The Streamer series sold in China are different models from those being recalled in Japan this time, so there is no need for a recall in China. It has become an industry norm for home appliance recalls to omit the Chinese market. Last October, Sony announced a global recall of 1.6 million Bravia brand LCD TVs, but only offered preventive inspections in the Chinese market without recalling them. In January 2010, Sharp announced a global recall of 48 refrigerator models, with an estimated 430,000 still in use, but claimed that this batch of refrigerators did not involve the Chinese market. In September of the same year, Toshiba announced the recall of 41,000 Satellite Lite T series notebook computers, but China was not within the scope of the recall.
