Hebei Business Daily reporter Song Xiaoshan, trainer Zong Lei. Have you seen a seven-legged frog? Henan Business Daily reporter Wang Qiufu / photo. At around 6 am yesterday morning, citizen Xing Xuexi was practicing near the Jinhui River at Guitong Bridge when he spotted a frog on his way home. Around 5 pm yesterday afternoon, Mr. Xing originally brought the frog home and asked the patrol team for help in handling it alive. Afterwards, he decided to find out why the frog had seven legs. A woman from the Shanghai Institute of Biology told him, "This may be related to genetic mutation." Last night, Zhengzhou officials captured a seven-legged frog and placed it in captivity that same afternoon. Experts claimed that the seven-legged frog might be associated with environmental pollution. When Mr. Xing placed the frog in his hand to examine it, he was startled—it had seven legs. "Aside from being slightly smaller in size, it didn't differ much from an ordinary frog." Subsequently, the reporter consulted the chief gardener of the Zhengzhou People's Park, who stated that there could be three possible reasons: genetic mutation; developmental abnormality; or the mother consumed something unusual during pregnancy. "If this is not an isolated case, then it could be related to environmental pollution."
