□ By reporter Wang Zhaofeng, Correspondent Sun Wei Hua and Luo Xiao Jie "Her father-in-law, mother-in-law, father and mother, all four elders were taken care of by her in their old age. For several years, she simultaneously looked after her father-in-law, mother-in-law, and sick father. It was truly not easy," said Sun Hong Lan's neighbor, Wang Yan Zhen.

"It is often said that even a filial child may become impatient with a long-term bedridden patient. She has taken care of her brother-in-law for so many years, enduring much hardship and suffering. I've witnessed it all firsthand, yet she refuses to bother her own children, which deeply moves me," said Sun Hong Lan's former neighbor, Shan Zhong Ren, referring to Anji tourism.

After feeding Kang Zong Cheng an egg, Sun Hong Lan helped him turn over and tidied up his bedding. After all the fuss, the kang (a traditional Chinese heated bed) wasn't warm enough, so she fetched firewood to heat it up. "When heating the kang, there shouldn't be too much smoke in the room, as he (Kang Zong Cheng) dislikes it," said the 71-year-old Sun Hong Lan.

Sun Hong Lan was one of seven siblings, and she herself had two sons and three daughters. The members of her extended family maintained a harmonious relationship. "This is all thanks to Sun Hong Lan's integrity and kindness, which are universally acknowledged throughout the entire village," said Zhangzhuang Village Branch Secretary Hou Ju Peng. Sun Hong Lan's actions provide excellent moral education material and should be strongly advocated, especially for today's youth. Therefore, just before the Spring Festival, he and several cadres delivered a bag of flour, a bucket of cooking oil, and 300 yuan in cash to Sun Hong Lan's home.

In previous years, the local government planned to arrange for Kang Zong Cheng to live in a nursing home, but Sun Hong Lan was reluctant. "If we can take care of him, why must he stay in a nursing home, causing inconvenience to others? It doesn't feel right to me."

Without hesitation, Sun Hong Lan took on the responsibility of caring for Kang Zong Cheng. Unfortunately, the following year, her husband Kang Zong Yi contracted the same illness, impairing his ability to walk. Her burden became even heavier.

Sun Hong Lan turned back to the kitchen, quickly frying two eggs, and brought them to Kang Zong Cheng's bedside, feeding him bite by bite.

"Little Second Brother! Little Second Brother..." At around 11 o'clock on the morning of February 7, the 85-year-old Kang Zong Cheng lay in bed, hoarsely shouting repeatedly.

"Little Second Brother" was Kang Zong Cheng's term for his 78-year-old younger brother Kang Zong Yi. However, Sun Hong Lan knew that this shout was directed at her as his sister-in-law, so she immediately dropped what she was doing and rushed over. It turned out that Kang Zong Cheng wanted something to eat.

Kang Zong Cheng had a big temper and would call for someone at the slightest provocation. If they came too slowly, he would get angry. As soon as Sun Hong Lan heard his shouts, she would rush over. Since winter began, Sun Hong Lan slept without removing her clothes at night because she had to frequently get up in the middle of the night to attend to Kang Zong Cheng, so she simply slept fully clothed.

Despite Kang Zong Cheng being completely unable to take care of himself, his mind remained relatively clear. "There aren't many people like her in the whole country; if it weren't for her, I would have died long ago," said Kang Zong Cheng.

Sun Hong Lan admitted frankly that after so many years, she had already gotten used to her current life. "I don't mind the dirt or the fatigue; I feel quite content. As long as he lives one more day, I will take care of him for one more day, ensuring he lives well," she said.

"When the weather was sunny, she would help him (Kang Zong Cheng) into the yard to bask in the sun. Later, when he could no longer take care of himself, cleaning him and emptying his chamber pot were all done by Sun Hong Lan alone, and she never complained," said Sun Hong Lan's neighbor, Zhang Ming Lan.

"Two years ago, he lived in the inner room while we lived in the outer room, making it convenient to care for him. Later, he insisted on moving to this adjacent room. Unable to argue with him, we cleaned it up and moved him over," said Sun Hong Lan.

Sun Hong Lan said that at night, Kang Zong Cheng would knock on the wall and loudly call for someone, but there was nothing that actually needed to be done. He just wanted someone to come and check on him, seeking psychological comfort. People grow older and hope for attention.

In 1996, Kang Zong Cheng, who lived in Zhangzhuang Village in Songlin Town, Linqing City, suffered from a stroke and became paralyzed. Having no family or children, he was a villager receiving welfare support. His only reliance was his younger brother Kang Zong Yi and his sister-in-law Sun Hong Lan.
