After receiving the police report from Tongzi County Public Security Bureau, the on-duty police officers of Zhaoqing Railway Police immediately mobilized the train staff to search each carriage one by one. Eventually, they found Li Mou in the upper berth No. 17 of carriage No. 7 and found a note on her that read "If you want to see your daughter later, immediately transfer 300,000 yuan to your daughter's card." The railway police immediately conducted an investigation on her and the passengers around her but failed to find any valuable clues.
At around 1:40 AM on September 17, through reviewing the surveillance footage at Tongzi Railway Station, the police of Tongzi County Public Security Bureau confirmed that Li Mou had boarded the K813 train from Chongqing to Guangzhou. They requested assistance from the Zhaoqing Railway Police Brigade who were on duty on this train. A citizen of Tongzi County, named Li Mingzheng, reported that his daughter Li Mou (female, 21 years old, a senior high school student at a certain middle school in Tongzi County) was kidnapped and the kidnappers demanded 300,000 yuan.
On September 18, the railway police took Li Mou back to the Zhaoqing Criminal Investigation Team for further investigation. After patient education, Li Mou’s concerns were alleviated, and she finally revealed the truth: In April 2009, Li Mou met a man named Wu Moufeng (22 years old, from Siquan, Guizhou Province) online. They developed into a boyfriend-girlfriend relationship and engaged in sexual relations. In March 2011, after discovering she was pregnant, Li Mou informed Wu Moufeng. However, he ignored it and asked Li Mou to deal with it herself. Seeing her increasingly protruding belly and having no other options, Li Mou decided to send a message to her father, Li Mingzheng, falsely claiming she was kidnapped and demanding 300,000 yuan as ransom (Li Mou thought abortion would cost a lot of money).
On September 19, after confirming there was indeed no kidnapping, Zhaoqing Railway Police handed over Li Mou to the Tongzi County Public Security Bureau in Guizhou Province and her father to take her back home.
