"The two girls scored the same in this year's college entrance exam, both with 531 points!" Yesterday, Mr. Zhou from Xinmi City called to say that the twin daughters of a colleague scored the same this year, one was admitted to Henan Agricultural University and the other to Henan Institute of Technology.
Difficult Life, Poor Family Circumstances
At around 1 PM yesterday afternoon, inside an old building by the street at the Maogang Family Courtyard of Zhengmei Group in Xinmi City, we saw the 19-year-old twin sisters, Kang Tingting and Kang Shuangshuang, helping their parents with housework. An old ceiling fan hung in the air, making creaking sounds as it kept spinning.
"The house is over 40 square meters, and the four of us can just manage to live here," said the father of the two sisters, Kang Siyuan. Originally from Liaocheng, Shandong, he works for the Sales Company of Zhengmei Group, earning about 1600 yuan per month. In 1998, after borrowing money to buy this house, he brought his wife and daughters to settle here from their hometown. "In earlier years, my wife sold vegetables at a stall, earning a few hundred yuan a month, but she stopped the small business after falling ill in recent years."
Too Similar Can Also Cause Troubles
"Having two phoenixes fly out of the family at once brings joy but also worries," said the 55-year-old Kang Siyuan. Although life is poor, the children are very sensible. "Our parents have had it tough, so we must strive to make something of ourselves," said the elder sister, Kang Tingting. After moving from their hometown to study in Xinmi, the two sisters made a request to both their parents and teachers not to be placed in the same class due to their striking resemblance, which could cause unnecessary trouble. This arrangement continued from elementary school until the end of their second year in high school.
Entering the third year of high school, the sisters suddenly changed their minds and wanted to be in the same class. "After more than ten years of schooling, we've never been in the same class. We thought if we continue like this, it might be somewhat regrettable," said Kang Tingting. Their personalities and preferences are different, making it hard for them to enter the same university. "Considering all these factors, we decided to study in the same class."
Sisters' Academic Performances Shockingly Consistent
In terms of academic performance, the younger sister Kang Shuangshuang slightly lags behind her older sister. However, what everyone didn't expect was that when the college entrance exam results were announced, although there were slight differences in scores across various subjects, their total scores were both 531 points. Over the past decade, they have never achieved such similar scores. "This might be the telepathy between twins reaching its peak," said Kang Siyuan, finding it hard to understand looking at his second daughter's score. "They have been admitted to Henan University of Science and Technology and Henan Agricultural University respectively, with a total tuition fee of more than 10,000 yuan, which is really worrying."
"Both children have been admitted to universities, and we absolutely cannot let them drop out due to lack of tuition fees," said Mr. Zhou, a colleague of Kang Siyuan. Currently, they are trying to report to the company to apply for corresponding assistance.
