Centipedes are prone to bacterial infections that cause this disease. In the early stages, infected centipedes mainly develop small black or green spots on the skin of their joints, which gradually expand; then the surface loses its luster, black spots appear under the abdomen, appetite decreases, movement becomes sluggish, and they eventually die from refusing to eat and becoming emaciated. The main reason for the occurrence of this disease is excessive humidity in the breeding environment, or the decay and mold of residual food in the pool. Centipedes have a relatively strong resistance and generally do not get sick, but improper breeding can also make them ill. Below, we introduce the main diseases of centipedes and their prevention and treatment methods:

1. Green Mold Disease: Also called green stiff mold disease, it is the main disease in artificial centipede farming. From mid-June to the end of August, due to high temperatures and humidity, as well as moldy food,

Prevention and treatment methods: (1) Remove moldy food, provide fresh live food, maintain hygiene in the breeding pool, and disinfect to eliminate bacteria. (2) Adjust the temperature and humidity in the breeding pool and keep it ventilated to reduce moisture. (3) For diseased centipedes, 0.25 grams of penicillin can be dissolved in 1 kilogram of water for spray disinfection or mixed with water for drinking. (4) Mix 0.6 grams of probiotics, 0.25 grams of oxytetracycline, and 0.25 grams of chloramphenicol into powder, mix it evenly with 400 grams of feed, and feed it to the diseased centipedes until they recover.

2. Abdominal Swelling Disease: Centipedes often suffer from this disease during rainy and low-temperature periods in autumn, mostly caused by overeating and low temperatures. In the early stage, the head of the diseased centipede turns purplish red, the poison hooks open fully, they stop eating or eat less, the abdomen swells, and movement slows down, leading to death about one week after infection.

Prevention and treatment methods: (1) Mix 1 gram of probiotics with 500 grams of water, let them suck it, and increase the temperature. (2) Grind 0.5 tablets of sulfonamide into fine powder and mix it evenly with 300 grams of feed; or mix 0.25 grams of chloramphenicol with 300 grams of feed, feed every other day until recovery.

3. Molting Disease: Caused by excessively damp living conditions that allow fungi to parasitize on the body. Initially, symptoms include restlessness and constant crawling, later progressing to weakness and slow movement, ultimately resulting in death from refusing to eat or move.

Prevention and treatment method: Mix 0.25 grams of oxytetracycline, 0.6 grams of probiotics, and 1 gram of calcium tablets into fine powder, stir it evenly with 400 grams of feed, and feed continuously for several days until recovery.

4. Ant Infestation: During molting or egg-laying incubation periods, centipedes have weak resistance. Ants entering can attack en masse, causing molting centipedes to be bitten to death or causing female centipedes to abandon their eggs and flee.

Prevention and treatment methods: (1) Dig a trench around the breeding pool, fill it with water to prevent ants from entering. (2) Lure ants away with fruit or other sweets and scald them with boiling water.

5. Miscarriage: Pregnant centipedes may miscarry due to interference, turning over, noise, or direct stimulation by foreign objects. Therefore, during pregnancy, tranquility should be maintained, and frequent turning should be avoided.

Additionally, precautions must be taken against rats eating adult insects, larvae, and eggs, which could cause harm.

Huazhong Agricultural University Support: As part of the national 211 project, Huazhong Agricultural University collaborates with Wuhan Nongke惠民Biological Engineering Co., Ltd. to research and promote scientific farming techniques for centipede breeding: the惠民No. 2 Jintou centipede.

Advanced Technology Advantage: Through years of observation, multiple biological experts and professors of bioengineering from Wuhan Nongke惠民Biological Engineering Co., Ltd. and Huazhong Agricultural University have used selective purification techniques and genetic improvement engineering to breed a new generation of centipedes – the惠民No. 2 Jintou centipede. Observations show that this variety is easy to raise, has a gentle temperament, strong adaptability, rapid growth, high reproduction rates, better medicinal value, and more significant economic benefits, making it an ideal investment project for many breeders.

Complete Breeding Facilities: The company leverages agricultural science advantages and life sciences as its specialty, relying on experts and scholars from the Animal Science and Technology College, focusing on modern bioengineering, special animal husbandry, and insect resource development. It is a high-tech enterprise integrating research, breeding, teaching, promotion, technical services, production, sales, and import-export trade. It owns large-scale ecological breeding areas, solar house breeding zones, greenhouse breeding zones, and separate technical training centers, seedling cultivation centers, germplasm rooms, incubation rooms, and gene transfer rooms, with excellent infrastructure and a complete system.

Wuhan Nongke惠民Company: Upholding the tradition of diligent reading and hard work, our company aims to promote scientific agriculture.
