The silkworms were happily eating mulberry leaves.
Not to boast, but each of the silkworms in my house is a big eater. If you give them a mulberry leaf, they can finish it in one afternoon. Isn't that amazing?
In order to understand why the silkworms eat mulberry leaves so quickly, I specially observed them.
The silkworms use their tiny teeth, smaller than needles, to bite into the fresh mulberry leaves. This fresh mulberry leaf was quickly eaten up by the silkworms. In this process, I observed that the way silkworms eat mulberry leaves is very similar to how most insects eat. They take bites one by one, and where they've eaten, there will be a small semi-circular shape. If they continue biting in a line, it will become a large semicircle.
I think the way silkworms eat is the cutest among insects. They wriggle their slender bodies, slowly crawling towards the mulberry leaves, using their extremely small mouths to eat the leaves, eating them into semi-circles, and they eat very fast. A circle every few seconds, then another circle every few seconds, and soon the mulberry leaf has a big hole. It seems right to call silkworms "big eaters."
When observing the silkworms eating mulberry leaves, I also found that they like to press their bodies against the edge of the leaf while eating. It's said that when silkworms are extremely hungry, even fifth-instar silkworms will eat the leaf stalks, leaving nothing behind. Silkworms are truly deserving of the title "big eater"!
These are the big eaters in my house - the silkworms!
