At noon on December 21, 2009, in the village of Zhangshang in Yangfu, Fuying Street, Xianju County, Taizhou, a villager surnamed Jin saw a gray suitcase floating in a pond by the side of the road, so he fished it out. The moment he unzipped it, he was shocked: curled up inside the suitcase was the body of a young woman.
Jin stumbled back home and reported it to the police.
The results of the scene investigation and autopsy showed that the victim had died from suffocation. She was about 22 years old, 159 cm tall, of medium build, with a round face, and had no identification on her.
The police immediately cordoned off and secured the area around the scene and began a comprehensive investigation. Clues began to converge...
"Early that morning, a young man was seen dragging a suitcase, with a young woman following beside him on the road leading into the village. The man looked like he was struggling, so the suitcase must have been quite heavy." "The woman looked very fashionable and pretty; we've never seen anyone like her around here."
Could this couple be the suspects?
After five days and nights of investigation and sorting through information, on the morning of December 26, the police received a video showing that on the day the body was dumped, a taxi with a Wenling license plate had carried a young man carrying a large suitcase past the scene.
Once the taxi was found, according to the driver's recollection, the police judged that the first crime scene was most likely in Xiabaocai Village.
On January 7, 2010, after interviewing more than 5,000 people and repeatedly reviewing and screening nearly 400 hours of video footage, the focus of the investigation finally narrowed down to a pair of siblings from Hunan Province.
At around 11 a.m. on January 8, the suspects were arrested. After review, the suspects turned out to be two siblings, Peng Cui and Peng Guang, from Ningxiang, Hunan. Before the incident, they worked at an entertainment venue in Wenling but had accumulated a huge debt due to gambling.
In their desperate situation, sister Peng Cui remembered that her childhood friend Gao Chenxi had once told her: she was now with a wealthy person who had given her an apartment and several hundred thousand yuan in cash.
After careful planning, the siblings embarked on their sinister murder plan. On December 17, Peng Cui lured Gao Chenxi to Wenling from Changsha under the pretense of inviting her to go to Hong Kong for fun. In the dead of night on the 18th, Peng Cui brought the already slightly drunk Gao Chenxi to a rental house pre-arranged by her brother. After forcing Gao to reveal her bank card password, they killed her and stuffed her body into a prepared suitcase.
Later, the siblings took a taxi to dump the body over 100 kilometers away in a fish pond on the outskirts of Xianju. Subsequently, the younger brother returned to his hometown disguised as a woman and withdrew over 100,000 yuan from Gao’s bank account in multiple trips.
Recently, the suspects Peng Cui and Peng Guang were approved for arrest by the Xianju County Procuratorate on charges of robbery. Reporter: Chen Yiqing
