This afternoon, the second session of the advanced deeds report meeting in Hainan for the Public Security Frontier Corps' peacekeeping police riot control team to Haiti was held in Haikou.
At the report meeting, Liu Jianhong, who participated three times in the peacekeeping police riot control team to Haiti, was awarded first-class merit three times, and served as the captain of the eighth riot control team, told the story of how three days after the earthquake in Haiti, the Chinese riot control team resumed peacekeeping operations first. They used shovels, picks, and hands to dig through the rubble of the UN headquarters building, rescuing 9 UN personnel, recovering 3 bodies, and transferring 21 injured people.
Member of the report group, liaison officer Duan Zhonghui, went to Haiti this time to take over the work that martyr He Zhihong did before her death. Duan Zhonghui mentioned at the report meeting that martyr He Zhihong taught some Haitian students Chinese while she was in Haiti, spreading Chinese culture to them. She wanted to fulfill martyr He Zhihong's last wish when she arrived. Two scenes left a deep impression on her during her time in Haiti: one was the Lantern Festival evening party where Haitian students sang "Big China" for everyone. When the lyrics "We all have a home, named China..." were sung, she felt deeply moved inside. The other scene was on May 2nd when she returned to China, and a group of Haitian students helped her pack her luggage, tears streaming down their faces, which also deeply moved her.
Duty officer Wang Runze mentioned at the report meeting that eight Chinese peacekeeping police sacrificed their lives for world peace during the Haiti earthquake. Li Qin was less than 47 years old when he passed away, while Zhong Jianqin and He Zhihong were both only 35 years old. As Wang Runze recalled the rescue of the eight heroes missing during the Haiti earthquake, the listeners in the audience had tears in their eyes.
Members of the report group Ji Enrui and Bao Mengqiong interpreted from different aspects the core spirit of Haiti peacekeeping characterized by "loyalty, striving, unity, and dedication."
General Yao Lu, Chief of the Provincial Public Security Frontier Corps, attended the report meeting.
