At noon on June 27, a shocking family tragedy occurred in the urban area of Gaozhou City, Guangdong Province. A mother cruelly killed her three biological daughters and then slit her own wrists in a suicide attempt. She was later saved by medical personnel who were alerted to the situation and rushed her to the hospital. She is now out of danger. It is reported that the cause of the crime is suspected to be related to family and marital issues. The police are currently conducting further investigations.
Citizens Gathered to Watch the Scene
At around 5 PM on June 27, reporters received a tip from local "My Maoming" netizens that a murder case had occurred on Panzhou East Road at noon. A mother cruelly killed her three daughters, attempted suicide by cutting her wrists, and was sent to the hospital for treatment. The police were investigating the scene. Reporters immediately drove to the scene to understand the situation.
Near the crime scene on Panzhou East Road in Gaozhou City, more than a few citizens gathered on both sides of the road, looking into a small alley. Everyone showed signs of shock, asking each other about the incident. Some people shared what they knew, causing sighs and discussions among listeners. On the side of the road, there were several police cars parked. Policemen or security patrol officers stood by to maintain order.
Reporters followed the alley inside and walked dozens of meters to reach some relatively old buildings. In front of the buildings, large numbers of citizens gathered, staring at one of the east-west oriented buildings, which was said to be the scene of the murder. In front of the stairs, a police car was parked, with several police officers stationed nearby as guards. Other law enforcement personnel in uniform or plainclothes were busy working on the first floor.
Neighbors Were Shocked Upon Hearing the News
The reporter entered the building where the incident occurred to inquire. Aunt Zhou, still shaken, said that after 2:30 PM, when her daughter-in-law returned from sending the children to school, she suddenly heard cries of anguish coming from upstairs. Subsequently, police officers and medical personnel arrived and went upstairs. It was said that something happened at a household on the fourth floor. Not long after, medical personnel carried down an injured person with bleeding hands, originally identified as a woman named "Ajuan," around 40 years old, living on the fourth floor. Later, Ajuan's uncle also arrived. When Aunt Zhou asked him what happened, he said all three nieces were gone. Initially, she thought they had gone to school or work, but when she heard him say they had "gone to heaven," she suddenly realized what had happened. Her heart felt like it was hit hard, almost leaving her stunned.
In the corridor and stairway leading to Aunt Zhou's door, there were many bloodstains. Aunt Zhou said these were left by Ajuan’s bleeding wrist as medical personnel carried her downstairs.
Suspected Mother Killed Three Daughters Before Attempting Suicide
Another neighbor, an uncle, revealed that at around 3 PM, a large number of police officers, medical personnel, and family members appeared around the building, and he learned that a major event had occurred. He found out that a murder case had happened in a Li family household on the fourth floor. It was suspected that the three daughters were killed by their own mother, who then attempted suicide by cutting her wrists and was sent to the hospital for treatment. At the time, he heard law enforcement officers say that the police had received a call from this mother, roughly saying that she no longer wanted to live, had killed her daughters, and would commit suicide herself. After learning the address, the police rushed over and discovered that the three daughters had been killed in the house, with blood everywhere. The woman had also cut her own wrists, with unstoppable bleeding, so they urgently called 120 for help.
Family Marital Issues Suspected to Have Triggered the Tragedy
This uncle claimed that from various signs, the cause of the murder case was suspected to be related to family and marital issues within this household.
According to this uncle, the male head of the household surnamed Li, about 40 years old, while the female was known as "Ajuan," also around 40 years old. The couple only had three daughters and no sons. He had once heard neighbors say that Li complained that Ajuan did not give birth to a son, so he wanted to have another child with another woman, but Ajuan disagreed. Li also wanted to divorce Ajuan, but she strongly opposed it. However, Li often worked in Shenzhen (possibly as a chef or in business) and rarely returned home, so neighbors usually did not hear arguments between them regarding family and marriage issues. Later, it seemed that Ajuan somehow learned that her husband Li had already kept a mistress elsewhere and had largely neglected his family. Meanwhile, Li’s determination to divorce Ajuan remained firm. Ajuan might have thus become desperate and resentful, leading to this horrifying tragedy.
Three Daughters Aged Between 18 and 5 Years Old
According to neighbors, the building where the incident occurred was originally the dormitory for printing factory employees, with six floors and about 30 households. Since the printing factory had gone bankrupt long ago, some residents later sold their houses to others. The household involved lived in a suite on the fourth floor, approximately 80 square meters in size, originally owned by a married couple surnamed Li from the printing factory. About ten years ago, this elderly couple bought another house elsewhere, leaving this old house for their two sons and their families. About two or three years ago, the elder son moved out, leaving the house for the younger son, Li, and his family. Li and his wife Ajuan had three daughters. The eldest daughter was already 18 years old and started working in the city after graduating from junior high school last year. The second daughter was about 11 years old and attended elementary school. The youngest daughter was about five years old and attended kindergarten. Ajuan had previously worked in stores or hotels in the city but recently seemed to have stopped working, instead focusing on picking up and dropping off her daughters and doing housework.
Suicidal Mother Sent to Hospital with No Serious Damage
At 9 PM on June 27, the three daughters of the Li family who were killed were successively carried down the building and loaded onto vehicles from the funeral home and taken away. Law enforcement officers also packed up their investigation tools and took away evidence including weapons and items from the crime scene.
At 9:30 PM, reporters learned at the Gaozhou People's Hospital that Ajuan, suspected of killing her three daughters and attempting suicide, was named "Zhang Xuanjuan," 40 years old, originally from Zhanjiang City. Due to her suicide attempt by cutting her wrists, the hospital received an alert at 3:04 PM and rushed to her home to save her. When she was admitted to the hospital, Zhang Xuanjuan had already fallen into shock due to excessive blood loss. After full efforts by the hospital, Zhang Xuanjuan has regained consciousness, and her life is no longer in danger. However, she still needs to stay in the intensive care unit for further observation and treatment.
Currently, the police are conducting further investigations into the case. (Source: Maoming Evening News)
