Liaocheng, October 12th (Reporters Liu Yanpeng and Ling Wenxiu) On the 12th, an expanded meeting of the members of the Liaocheng City South-to-North Water Diversion Project Construction Command was held. The meeting issued the "Notice on Establishing the South-to-North Water Diversion Project Construction Command" in Liaocheng City. The meeting deployed and required that the main project of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project in the Liaocheng section will soon start construction.
The South-to-North Water Diversion Project is a large-scale inter-regional and inter-basin water conservancy project in China. The main project of the eastern route passes through Yanggu County, Dongchangfu District, and Linqing City in Liaocheng City, while the supporting projects involve several counties and districts such as Chaping and Shenxian. In response to this, the Liaocheng municipal government has specially established a construction command headed by Vice Mayor Zhao Qingzhong, and will begin implementing the construction of the main project of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project in the Liaocheng section within the year.
Sun Yifu, Deputy Director of the Shandong Provincial Department of Water Resources and Director of the Shandong Provincial South-to-North Water Diversion Project Construction Administration Bureau, said that there are only 26 months left until the end of 2012 when the main project of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project in the Liaocheng section is scheduled to be completed. Excluding holidays, bidding, tendering, and immigrant resettlement, there are only about 20 months left for construction time, which is 10 months shorter than the original plan. "Time is tight and the task is heavy. I hope relevant units can accelerate the progress of the project based on recognizing its significance," said Sun Yifu.
"Jiangbei Water City is Liaocheng's calling card, but Liaocheng is actually a city with a particularly severe water shortage, especially with regard to per capita freshwater scarcity." Standing Committee Member and Mayor Lin Fenghai introduced at the meeting that after the entire South-to-North Water Diversion Project is fully operational, it will achieve the joint use of Yellow River and Yangtze River water, bringing 180 million cubic meters of water resources to Liaocheng, strategically solving Liaocheng's water shortage problem. Counties and districts responsible for the main construction tasks must strengthen leadership and fully complete the construction of the main project of the South-to-North Water Diversion Project in the Liaocheng section without any compromise.
At the meeting, Lin Fenghai also signed responsibility agreements with relevant responsible persons from various counties and districts, listened to reports from the responsible persons of the Liaocheng City South-to-North Water Diversion Project Construction Administration Bureau and various counties and districts.
