From the moment gossip about a 'Sex and the City' prequel possibly hitting theaters at some point when you need it sprang up, it’s been an all-out guessing game as to which young stars might fill the now-iconic shoes of Carrie, Samantha, Miranda, and Charlotte.
The latest name to enter the mix? Hollywood "It" girl and Justin Bieber's girlfriend, Selena Gomez, unsurprisingly.
The rumors come directly from the 'SATC' novelist herself, who revealed in an interview that she’d like to see the 'Monte Carlo' star step into Charlotte York’s role for her prequel on the big screen.
"You know, WE are not aware of... Casting is like kismet. I’m going to get involved in this, but I was looking at some pictures of Selena Gomez today and thinking 'she’d make a brilliant young Charlotte,'” Candace Bushnell said. “She’s so real. I was like... gosh, wouldn’t she be fantastic? Am I right or completely wrong? I’m not good at this. Just mention something like that, then the next thing I know, people are like, no!"
But one thing Bushnell, who just released the second 'SATC' prequel, 'Summer and the City,' knows for sure is that the early days of Carrie & Co. will be brought to life -- one way or another.
"Definitely something on the screen," Bushnell said about the prequel. "Big or small screen."
The author has heard rumors that Blake Lively might take on the role of the young Carrie Bradshaw, but did review both 'SATC' shows starring the original HBO cast.
"Love 'em," Bushnell said, adding that she can’t take credit for the shows. "I was not involved with the shows supra shoes 2010, but Michael Patrick King, who wrote and directed many episodes of 'Sex and the City,' he wrote and directed the shows and he was brilliant."
Don’t you think Gomez could fill Charlotte York’s shoes?
