According to reports (reporter Wan Qin, correspondent Ma Ke, interns Jiang Chong and Huang Guoying), three men used special demagnetization tools to steal books on a large scale from Xinhua Bookstore. After setting up a dragnet, the Wuchang police successfully captured this group of book thieves and searched out 152 valuable books from the rental accommodations of the three men. Yesterday, the three suspects in the gang were placed under criminal detention by the Wuchang police.
A week ago, when officers were visiting enterprises and institutions within their jurisdiction, Xinhua Bookstore informed the officers that books in the store had been frequently stolen over the past month. Despite the installation of various anti-theft facilities, these measures proved ineffective. The Zhonghua Road Police Station immediately organized officers to start an investigation. They found that there were often three men repeatedly entering and leaving the bookstore without ever purchasing any books. After several days of surveillance, the officers finally noticed at around 4 PM on the 12th that the three men, dressed in oversized coats, appeared in the bookstore again. About ten minutes later, they came out with their clothes bulging. The officers stopped the three men and found more than 20 books and specially-made demagnetization tools on them. Subsequently, the officers searched the rental accommodations of the three suspects and found 152 stolen books, involving a case value of more than ten thousand yuan.
