Alfred Peters

According to the UK's Daily Mail report on May 17, Alfred Peters, a 77-year-old man from Derby, Derbyshire, UK, was told by his doctor last October that he had late-stage prostate cancer and only had three months left to live. Feeling utterly hopeless, he discarded all his belongings, spent all his life savings, and indulged in enjoying what he thought would be the remainder of his life. However, in January 2011, after Alfred went for a follow-up appointment at the hospital, he learned that he didn't have cancer at all; the previous diagnosis was purely due to a careless doctor's misdiagnosis. Although he had been "brought back to life," Alfred, who now had nothing left, couldn't feel any joy and angrily complained about the hospital that had misdiagnosed him with cancer.

Diagnosed with "cancer," given only three months to live

In the 1990s, Alfred had suffered from bowel cancer and underwent intestinal tumor removal surgery in 1999. Eventually, he successfully overcame the cancer and survived. However, in October 2010, when Alfred went to the Royal Derby Hospital for a routine check-up, the doctor diagnosed him with late-stage prostate cancer after conducting a CT scan.

Upon hearing this news, Alfred was stunned. He claimed that due to health issues with his prostate over the years, he always went for regular medical examinations, fearing the worst. But he never imagined that despite his precautions, the cancer had recurred. The doctor stated that since Alfred's prostate cancer could not be cured through surgery, he might live no longer than three months!

Abandoning all property, indulging in the "remainder of his life"

Since all his relatives had already passed away, to avoid taking his wealth to the grave, Alfred, knowing his "days were numbered," decided to let go of everything before dying and indulge in enjoying what he believed would be the rest of his life. After being diagnosed with cancer, Alfred donated all his clothes to charity organizations and threw away family photos he had cherished for many years, waiting for death.

During this time, Alfred indulged in eating, drinking, and having fun, spending all the savings and pensions he had accumulated through hard work.

Surviving past the deadline, discovering the misdiagnosis upon review

However, as three months quickly passed, Alfred was still alive and well! In January 2011, the still-living Alfred couldn't sit still anymore and decided to go to the hospital for a follow-up examination. The result shocked Alfred — another doctor carefully examined him and announced that there were no signs indicating he had any kind of cancer! Alfred recalled that the doctor's statement once again left him stunned: "I simply couldn't believe my ears. I asked the doctor if he had mixed up my medical records, but he said it was completely correct."

The doctor informed Alfred that although he still faced a series of health issues and needed relevant treatment, he would absolutely not die soon. Alfred then realized that the so-called "cancer" diagnosis was likely a misdiagnosis by the previous careless doctor! However, when Alfred requested to confront the previous careless doctor face-to-face, he was told that the doctor had already resigned.

Alive but penniless, angrily complaining about the hospital

Although "brought back to life," Alfred, who now had nothing left, couldn't feel any joy at all. Alfred lamented sorrowfully: "This is truly shocking. You see, I've already spent all my property because I had no living relatives, so I decided to let go completely. But now I'm still alive, yet I have nothing!"

According to reports, Alfred has already filed a complaint with the Royal Derby Hospital, which misdiagnosed him with cancer. However, what infuriated Alfred was that despite multiple complaints, the hospital's administrative department merely kept promising that the misdiagnosis incident was "under investigation," with no results forthcoming. On the 16th, a spokesperson for the Royal Derby Hospital stated in an interview with reporters: "We have become aware of Alfred's complaint and are currently conducting a comprehensive investigation. We will provide him with a written response within the next few days." A comprehensive report from the Express.
