In 1986, a group of members from the Mersham afternoon club (an elderly organization) read an article in a magazine reporting that a nearby village had pioneered online knitting, including methods for shaping lip pearls. This group of members who refuse to grow old decided to try it out and never stopped. For 23 years, the club members have been tirelessly enthusiastic about this activity.
However, most of the 12 original founders of the club have now passed away.
The prototype for the miniature artwork is the village of Mersham in Kent. Every tree, every tile, shops, churches, parks, pubs, schools, and post offices are all knitted as closely to the originals as possible, resulting in over 60 landscapes. From public telephones and trash bins to larger areas like sports fields, everything appears in these works. Villagers visiting the textile exhibits can even find their own houses represented.
Due to the large number of pieces, transportation became an issue. As a result, the replicas had to be divided into two parts for loading and transport to various exhibitions. These exhibitions even generated ten thousand pounds in revenue, which the club donated to the local government.
On May 14, according to a comprehensive report by foreign media, a village in Kent, England, has been transformed into a miniature work of art made from yarn. Twenty-three years ago, a group of textile enthusiasts began this grand project, spending thousands of hours to complete this masterpiece.
Creating such works requires meticulous planning. For example, club members first need to take photos so they can knit according to the patterns in the photos. Sometimes, they also need to design models using cardboard before knitting according to the model.
It took 23 years to create the lifelike miniature town through knitting.
