Winter Trees

Winter trees are solemn,
and even more concise.
They shed the naivety of spring,
the brilliance of summer,
the splendor of autumn,
and become a sharp sword,
pointing straight to the sky,
standing there with integrity.
When rain comes,
frost comes,
ice comes,
snow comes,
they face it all calmly,
shouldering it all generously.
No need for leaves clapping beside them,
no need for the wind stirring around.
A tree is just a tree,
silently bearing what it should,
calmly facing what it must.
Though they have lost the lushness and beauty that leaves once brought,
they have also discarded complexity and burden.
Trees fully covered with leaves in summer can be snapped by fierce winds,
but winter trees, in fierce winds,
either stand straight or fall over.
But they will never bend,
because they have abandoned clutter and weight.
Simplicity is the most beautiful.
I like winter trees,
I like the simplicity and integrity of winter trees.
