External links, also known as "inbound links" or "backlinks," refer to links from other websites pointing to your own site. The primary role of external links is for search engines: first, they attract web crawlers, and second, they increase the website's authority!

Here, I'd like to briefly share some of my experiences and techniques in increasing external links, to exchange ideas with everyone!

1. Friend Links

Although Google hasn't eliminated PR values, I believe the impact of PR on a website's search engine ranking is becoming smaller and smaller! PR can be used as a reference value for friend links, but more importantly, you need to focus on the quality of the website!

For many people, if their own website has a PR of 4, they always look for sites with PR greater than or equal to 4 to establish friend links, rarely considering lower PRs. As a result, it becomes difficult to exchange friendship links. I remember a while ago meeting a girl who was tasked with finding 15 PR4 websites for friend links for 58同城. By the end of the day, she only found four and came to me! But I don’t have that many websites with PR greater than 4 either!

When I exchange friend links, I first look at the quality of the website. For example, Shanshuiwang had a PR of 0 at the time, and many people were unwilling to exchange with them. However, within two months, after the PR update, they jumped directly to PR5. Now, if you try to exchange with them with a PR lower than 5, they will definitely not agree! There are some new sites with great PR potential when doing friend links. These sites usually jump to at least PR3 during an update and are very willing to maintain long-term friend links. These sites become your future link resources. One of my new sites reached PR3 in just one month thanks to these resources!

2. Increasing Links via Blogs

Many people like to increase their website's external links by creating free blogs or leaving comments on blogs. Through experimentation, I feel that this method has minimal effect; it only increases a large number of junk external links. In fact, there are now many independent blogs, and many of them have PR4 or higher, with some even reaching PR6 or above. Leaving comments on these blogs to increase external links works very well!

When increasing external links through blog comments, attention should be paid to the blog platform. For instance, WordPress platforms generally include nofollow in comment links, so it’s not worth spending effort commenting on such blogs—though it might still help in attracting spiders. On the other hand, some blog platforms do not have nofollow, such as Emlog! There are probably close to 10,000 Emlog blogs now, and many of them are personal diary-type blogs with low traffic and few commenters, but they often have high authority, making the linking effect very obvious!

3. Increasing External Links via Website Comments

Many people like to increase external links through forum signatures or comments on articles on large websites. For example, comments in A5 articles usually include their own website address, but how effective this is remains questionable! Conversely, sometimes paying attention to other websites yields better results. For example, Plum Network has high site authority, allows comments, and some company websites also have high authority but receive little traffic. If you leave comments on these websites, the effect is excellent!

Remember to accumulate these resources regularly when doing link building, so it will be easier to build links for new sites next time!
