Nowadays, whether it's a blog or a CMS, I think no one doesn't use tags. It's estimated that more people use tags purely for SEO purposes, of course, some say it's for user experience!

What is a Tag?

A tag is a keyword or phrase representing certain content (text, images, audio, video) used to build websites that are navigated by keywords or phrases (which can also be called categories) in order to classify complex information. Tags come from the now passé Web 2.0 trend: del.icio.us has new information submitted countless times every day by internet users around the world, without tags this content would be in complete disarray. Flickr, a social photo sharing community, wouldn't be able to clearly categorize millions of pictures without tags. Because of the emergence of Web 2.0, information suddenly exploded on certain sites, and tags had to be created accordingly. It can be said that tags are a classification system, or a type of keyword marker. Through tags, related articles can be linked together.

Why write Tags?

From the user's perspective, tags help users quickly find articles on the same topic, increasing user stickiness and average PV per person.

From an SEO perspective:

1. Increase the number of pages indexed by search engines.

2. Provide a tag page with a clear theme for search engines to rank, thereby bringing traffic.

How to use Tag labels reasonably?

Firstly, from the original meaning of tags, since tags are a kind of classification marked by keywords or phrases, they should not overlap with your navigation or website column classifications. For example, if you have a "Online Promotion" section, then your tag should not be "Online Promotion" again! Tags should be more细分than categories, such as "Online Promotion Plan", etc.

From the user experience perspective, the purpose of tags is to better display and highlight the key search terms or entries, so as to better index and guide user browsing and indexing. Tags differ from ordinary classification methods in that they are built from bottom to top. Tags can mark keywords that do not exist in the article, so you need to consider providing precise relevant content to users. After users click on the tag, what appears should be the content they want. For example, if users are looking for QQ emoticons or QQ avatars, and your TAG is "QQ", how many people do you think will click on this tag?

From an SEO perspective, we sometimes hope that tags can get good rankings to bring traffic, so tags need to consider long-tail factors. In addition, the number of articles on the tag page needs to be considered. Tags are originally responsible for organizing massive amounts of information. If a tag page only has one article for a long time, it will definitely be difficult to achieve good SEO ranking results. Additionally, the tag text should at least fully match and appear several times in the article.

Currently, both Baidu and Google can effectively identify tag labels, which play a good role in website indexing! Must an article have a tag? I don't think it's necessary, especially for personal blogs; how many is appropriate? Free rein!

The above is my little opinion on the usage of tags and the SEO optimization of tags. Welcome everyone to raise different opinions!
