A TV station launched a big campaign: to collect the sentence that makes women feel the most blessed. When the submissions poured in like snowflakes, the one that eventually won was this phrase: "You lie down, I'll get up."
This story is not a new tale.
A couple got married early and soon had a child. With no elderly family members to help and insufficient money to hire a nanny, the woman took on the responsibility of raising the child and managing the household alone, while the man worked hard outside for the family's livelihood. However, their child wasn't as healthy as they hoped; he developed jaundice and later pneumonia. To treat the child, the woman worked even harder, and due to taking care of the child, she barely rested after childbirth. In order to give their newborn a good chance at life and to encourage each other, every time the man returned home, he would tidy his messy hair and brush off the dust from his clothes before straightening up and ringing the doorbell. And every time the woman heard familiar footsteps coming up the stairs, she would quickly adjust her wrinkled clothes from holding the child and doing housework, comb her disheveled bangs, and smile as she went to open the door. One day, the woman accidentally discovered the man’s secret through the peephole. She cried, but quickly wiped away her tears and still greeted him with a bright smile when she opened the door.
The woman loved the man dearly. During the nights when the child cried and fussed, no matter how tired she was, she never woke the man, instead quietly getting up herself. Soon, the man discovered the woman’s secret, and he became even more considerate. Whenever the child made a sound during the night, he would immediately wake up, reach out, gently press her, and say: "You lie down, I'll get up." Because the child was sick and often cried, the man repeated this phrase many times every night.
The host finished speaking. An elderly man with silver hair appeared behind the audience, holding the hand of a similarly silver-haired woman. The old man was deeply moved; pointing to the woman, he said: "The woman in the story is her, and I am the man. We have been married for 58 years, and even today, whenever I think of those words he spoke, my heart still feels warm."
