At 6:16 and 9:05 on April 14, the command center of Qinghai Provincial Public Security Fire Brigade received reports respectively that at 5:39, a Richter scale 4.7 earthquake occurred in Yushu County, Yushu Prefecture (830 kilometers away from the provincial capital Xining); at 7:49, a Richter scale 7.1 earthquake occurred again. The epicenter was 30 kilometers away from Gyegu Town, Yushu County (the seat of the prefecture government). It was learned that a large number of houses collapsed in Gyegu Town, Yushu County, Qinghai Province, and multiple fire accidents and people buried incidents happened. Communications were interrupted and the 119 emergency call system failed. There was no casualty among the officers and soldiers of the Yushu fire station, who have been engaged in rescue work. After receiving the report, the Qinghai Fire Brigade immediately established an emergency rescue leading group, and selected 68 officers and soldiers and 9 vehicles from Xining, Haidong, Hai'nan and Haibei to form an emergency rescue team for the Yushu earthquake-stricken area. At 9:30, under the personal leadership of General Manager Liu Jiangmin, the rescue team has left for the disaster area with maritime satellite phones and will arrive at Yushu County tonight. At present, the whole Qinghai provincial fire force is in the first level of combat readiness. Commissioner Jiang Yuwei stays in the general team command center, and cadres and all officers and soldiers in the province are standing by.
