Our reporter (Li Jia), correspondent (Wang Huaimin, Ma Heng) - Kerria japonica, annual ragweed, quince... In Zhong Xin's "Luo Jia Mountain Plants Diary," their beauty is no less than that of cherry blossoms.

Zhong Xin is a senior student at the College of Chemistry and Molecular Science at Wuhan University. After entering university, he took pictures of over 50 kinds of plants in every corner of Wuhan University and posted them on "Xiaonei.com" under the name "Luo Jia Mountain Plants Diary."

Yesterday, our reporter interviewed him. "How do you recognize them?" "I could call out their general categories and genera when I was in elementary school," he said.

"Luo Jia Mountain is a botanical garden"

"Quince, taken in the sunken garden of the Cherry Garden, English name Chaenomeles cathayensis", "Ginkgo biloba, taken in the sunken garden of the Cherry Garden near the small playground of Mei Garden"... Yesterday, we saw various plants he photographed on Xiaonei.com.

Each plant not only notes the shooting location but also accompanies poetic descriptions. He describes Ginkgo biloba as "the green life that has hibernated all winter suddenly blooms like a sea anemone." He introduces that Luo Jia Mountain has lush flowers and trees all year round.

When he first entered campus as a freshman, he would go to the "corners" whenever he had time and unexpectedly discovered many plants. Over four years, he gradually took hundreds of pictures of over 50 kinds of plants. Sometimes, he could only roughly identify the category or genus, so he would look it up online based on characteristics such as leaf veins for confirmation.

"Sakura overshadows the brilliance of other plants"

He pays more attention to the plants that many people don't see. "On the opposite side of the Sakura Avenue in the sunken garden, there are fields of Veronica in the spring, and in late autumn, there are canopies of ginkgo trees worth knowing about. But the promotion has let the sakura overshadow the brilliance of other plants..." he said.

Most people look at plants from a top-down perspective, but he more often lowers his stance, even lying down to take upward shots. "All plants are equal," he said.

In elementary school, he could distinguish over 20 kinds of plants within the same genus

According to him, since elementary school, he has been interested in the "Nature" class and read "Cihai" as an extracurricular book, especially loving the entries on various plants. He learned good habits of note-taking and classification, and by elementary school, he could write down over 20 kinds of plants in the Abies genus of the Pinaceae family.

Since the fourth grade of elementary school, he has almost visited botanical gardens across the country. Encouraged by his parents, he picked up the family camera and started taking pictures of nearby plants.

Every year when he returns to his grandmother's house in the mountains of Ganzhou, Jiangxi, he climbs the mountains to identify plants. When he returns to his urban home, the balcony becomes his botanical garden.

18 volumes of "WHU Diaries" to leave memories for alma mater

Besides the "Luo Jia Mountain Plants Diary," Zhong Xin also used his camera to record 18 albums named "SHE IS WHU," meaning "She is Wuhan University." Apart from the plants of Luo Jia Mountain, he classified them into five elements—flowers, architecture, landscape, seasons, etc.—to leave memories for his alma mater.

He joined the ecological investigation team of Mount Shennongjia and the Yangtze River Basin at Wuhan University as a freshman and became the deputy captain in his sophomore year. During the recruitment speech for the scientific expedition team, he introduced: "Without the most natural love, there is no real environmental protection."
