Serif is a decorative hook at the end of a font stroke. This type of font is called Serif Fonts, such as Times Roman, Garamond, Souvenir, etc. In contrast, fonts that do not have a hook at the end of the stroke are called non-serifs (Sans Serif-Sans means not in French). This article is about the history and current situation of serif typefaces.
