Xinhua News Agency, Brussels, March 30 (Reporter Wang Xiaojun) Belgian Prime Minister Yves Leterme said in a special interview with Xinhua News Agency on the 30th that Zhejiang Geely Holding Group Co., Ltd.'s acquisition of Volvo Cars Corporation of Sweden is a model of globalization.
The city of Ghent, a port city in Belgium, currently has Volvo's largest production base outside of Sweden. Therefore, all levels of Belgian society are highly concerned about the fate of Volvo.
Leterme said that Belgium supports globalization, and this acquisition of Volvo by Geely is a good example of globalization. He positively evaluated Geely's decision to develop the European market through Volvo and continue to use Belgium as the base for developing Volvo's high-end products.
Leterme emphasized that the Belgian economy is very open, highly competitive, and geographically advantageous, occupying the center of Western Europe. With its second-largest port in Europe, Antwerp, and its well-developed road and rail transportation systems, Belgium can become the gateway to nearly 500 million consumers in the EU. He also introduced the investment attraction policies adopted by the Belgian government and welcomed foreign enterprises, including those from China, to invest and develop in Belgium.
