[Edit] History
Affliction was launched in August 2005 [1]. It is co-owned by Tom Atencio, Todd Beard, Eric Foss, and Clifton Chason [1][3], and originated as a spin-out from Foss and Chason’s Digital Ink Creative Services [4][5]. On November 14, 2008, Todd Beard resigned after Kim Couture, Randy Couture’s wife at the time, filed for a restraining order against him in a Clark County court [6].
[Edit] Products
Affliction’s clothing line includes t-shirts, polo shirts, thermals, jackets, and hoodies [1]. Their style has been described as “skull and crossbone inspired” [7]. Many of Affliction’s shirts bear the logos of many of the world’s top-ranked MMA fighters, including Georges St. Pierre, Randy Couture, BJ Penn, and Quinton Jackson. Several nightclubs and bars in Vancouver and Victoria do not allow Affliction’s clothing, in addition to other labels such as Ed Hardy, due to a perceived association with local gang activities. Pamela Rogers, a spokesperson for Affliction, maintained that the brand “has nothing to do with gangs” and describes it instead as an “upscale men’s boutique brand” [8]. In Calgary, the nightclub "Cowboys" has also banned the use of Affliction t-shirts, due to the incidents in Vancouver and Victoria.
[Edit] Xtreme Couture
Affliction Inc., along with Randy Couture and wife Kim Couture, started an offshoot of Affliction Clothing, titled Xtreme Couture in 2007.
Sinful, a line of clothing specifically designed for women, is a part of the Affliction Inc. family and is the sister to Affliction men’s clothing. Their shirts, pants, and hoodies often feature a mix of religious and non-religious elements, which include, but are not limited to: angels, angel wings, doves, crosses, burning hearts, roses, and skulls.
