Xinhua News Agency, Beijing, December 4th (reported by Zhu Liyi) - On December 4th, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine (AQSIQ) announced that it had found potential safety hazards in some imported Jeep Wrangler (WRANGLER) off-road vehicles with automatic transmissions manufactured by Chrysler Group LLC of the United States. In these vehicles, the transmission oil temperature may rise, which could lead to transmission failure and even fire. The AQSIQ then issued a risk warning notice for imported American Jeep Wrangler off-road vehicles (2007-2008 models).

Currently, Chrysler (China) Auto Sales Co., Ltd., representing the vehicle manufacturer, has provided an explanation to the AQSIQ regarding the investigation into the defects and proposed improvement measures. The AQSIQ is organizing relevant technical institutions for evaluation.

In order to protect consumer safety, according to the "Regulations on Risk Early Warning and Rapid Response Management of Entry-Exit Inspection and Quarantine", the AQSIQ reminds owners of imported Jeep Wrangler off-road vehicles (2007-2008 models) to immediately contact the nearest Chrysler authorized service center to arrange for vehicle inspections and adjustments to reduce usage risks.

The AQSIQ also requires all Chrysler authorized service centers to proactively report any received cases to the local entry-exit inspection and quarantine authorities truthfully. Each direct customs entry-exit inspection and quarantine bureau should strengthen supervision and inspection of imported Jeep Wrangler off-road vehicles within their jurisdiction. If any不合格vehicles are found, they should be handled legally and reported to the AQSIQ.

Additionally, it was learned that Renault S.A. decided that starting from December 25th, it will recall imported 2009 model year Renault Koleos cars produced between March 5, 2008, and August 21, 2009. According to the company's statistics, about 2,136 related vehicles are involved in mainland China.

The announcement stated that the defect is due to the possible loosening of the steering gear shaft securing nut, which may cause abnormal noise when operating the steering wheel, increasing the steering wheel's free play. If the steering gear securing nut becomes detached, at low speeds with large steering angles, the steering gear may disengage from the rack, leading to loss of steering ability, affecting driving safety.
