The Air Jordan 9 was released in 1993. On October 6th, 1993, MJ shocked the basketball world when he announced his retirement from the NBA. The Air Jordan 9 model was the first Jordan model released after his first retirement, and Jordan never played a whole season with this particular model. A special cleated version of the Air Jordan 9 was made and contributed to MJ's career with the Birmingham Barons baseball team. In one scene of the movie *Space Jam*, MJ wore the white/black colorway version of the Air Jordan 9. The Air Jordan 9 featured an inner sock sleeve and nubuck accents, similar to the Air Jordan 7 and 8. The sole of the Air Jordan Retro 9 showcased different symbols and languages for various countries. However, the Air Jordans did not disappear from the courts. They were produced not only with #23 on the back but also with numbers representing other superstars.
