Sina Technology News, evening of October 22 Beijing time, according to foreign media reports, Nokia today sued Apple in a court in Delaware, USA, accusing the defendant of infringing on its 10 patents.
Nokia stated that these 10 patents are related to GSM, UMTS, and LAN standards, involving wireless data, voice encoding, security, and encryption technologies. All models of Apple's iPhones infringe upon these patents. Since 2007, Apple has successively launched three models of the iPhone.
Nokia mentioned that 40 mobile phone manufacturers have licensed their technology, but no technical licensing agreement has been reached with Apple. Ilkka Rahnasto, Nokia's Vice President responsible for legal and intellectual property affairs, said in a statement, "Apple refuses to license our intellectual property under appropriate terms and attempts to use our innovative technology for free."
Industry insiders pointed out that patent infringement cases involving 10 patents usually last for several years. Despite still being the leader in the global mobile phone market, Nokia's market share has been eroded by "newcomers" like Apple. (Zhi Xiang)
