The theme of the Asia-Pacific 2008 Tourism Strategy Forum is "Tourism Research Findings and the Formulation and Implementation of Tourism Strategies," with the primary agenda being "The Impact of Macro Trends on Tourism and the Tourism Industry." Other topics include "Application of Research in Marketing Planning and Execution," "Strengthening Cooperation Between Tourism Bureaus, Airlines, Airports, Hotels, and Travel Agencies," and "Applying Research Findings to Business Strategies."

The Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA), founded in 1951, is a non-profit organization that serves tourism-related institutions in the Asia-Pacific region. Its members come from government tourism agencies, provincial and municipal tourism departments, 55 airlines and cruise companies, as well as hundreds of industry enterprises across nearly 100 countries or regions.

Under the backdrop of global financial instability, the tourism industry has inevitably been affected. Particularly, how the Asia-Pacific region, as a major tourist destination, responds to financial shocks has become a common regional topic.

In light of this, many tourism giants from the Asia-Pacific region, including Disney and Accor Hotel Group, will gather at the end of this month in Kunming for the Asia-Pacific Tourism Forum to discuss the impact of current macro trends on the tourism industry and seek active solutions.

The Asia-Pacific 2008 Tourism Strategy Forum is jointly organized by the Pacific Asia Travel Association and the Kunming Municipal Government. It includes participation from representatives of tourism bureaus, airlines, hotel groups, and renowned tourism companies from 16 countries and regions, along with officials from tourism departments of 13 cities including Xiamen, Haikou, and Guilin, who are part of the Southern Tourism Cities Cooperative within China.
