"How come the '100% cotton' clothes generate static electricity when worn? After inspection, it was found that these uniforms did not contain any cotton at all. Recently, law enforcement officers from the Quality Supervision Bureau of Shijiazhuang uncovered over 500 counterfeit and substandard suits based on consumer complaints.
Not long ago, a woman in the provincial capital bought three pieces of clothing for herself and her family at an ITAT workwear specialty store near the intersection of Zhaiying Street and Ta Nan Road. One of them was a women's knitted top labeled as '100% cotton.' However, after wearing this top, the lady felt very uncomfortable: it generated static electricity and caused irritation. Moreover, the garment also started to pill. Another pair of men's pants, labeled as '35% cotton,' exhibited severe static electricity issues. The lady raised her doubts with the seller. However, the salesperson confidently claimed that the labeling was correct.
Words alone are insufficient proof. This lady sent the three garments to the Fiber Inspection Institute of the Municipal Quality Supervision Bureau to test their cotton content. Upon inspection, it was determined that these professional outfits contained no cotton at all. Yesterday, law enforcement personnel from the Municipal Quality Supervision Bureau arrived at the ITAT clothing specialty store near the intersection of Zhaiying Street and Ta Nan Road, seizing 390 women's tops marked as '100% cotton' and 119 pairs of men's pants labeled as '35% cotton', which were then sealed and stored elsewhere. Preliminary statistics indicate that the total value of these garments exceeds 20,000 yuan.
Quality supervision personnel stated that the clothing purchased by the consumer has been confirmed as counterfeit and substandard products. Therefore, according to relevant regulations, the nearly 200-yuan inspection fee will be borne by the dealer.
The quality supervision personnel reminded consumers to be cautious while shopping during the Spring Festival season. If they purchase what seems to be counterfeit or substandard goods, they should have them inspected without hesitation. Once the product is found to be problematic, the inspection fees will be covered by the dealer or manufacturer, sparing the customer from bearing the cost."
