Strong attention: Glass glue is non-toxic, but generally has a strong corrosiveness! For detailed information, see below. Glass glue is a single-component elastic deacidification type room-temperature vulcanized silicone sealant. It uses silicone rubber as the main raw material and adds reinforcing agent, cross-linking agent, antioxidant, promoter, plasticizer, etc., synthesized by advanced technology into a single-component room-temperature vulcanized (RTV) sealant with good atmospheric aging resistance performance. It can be used for sealing glass, ceramics, aluminum alloy, wood without oil, bricks, tiles and other general building materials. It can be used for waterproofing, but not for structural glass assembly.
Usage method of sealant:
◆ Remove moisture, grease, dust and other contaminants on the joint surface. Use solvents (such as xylene, butanone) to clean the surface when appropriate, then wipe all residues with a clean cloth to make it fully clean and dry.
◆ Cover the nearby surface of the joint with plastic tape to ensure the perfect neatness of the sealing work line.
◆ Cut the tube opening, install the nozzle, and cut it at a 45° angle according to the seam size.
◆ Install the caulking gun, keep a 45° angle along the seam to press out the adhesive material, ensuring that the adhesive material closely contacts the base material surface. When the joint width is greater than 15mm, multiple repeated applications are needed. After applying the adhesive, use a knife to trim the surface, remove excess adhesive, then tear off the tape. If there are stains, they can be removed with a wet cloth.
◆ The sealant will surface cure in 10 minutes at room temperature, complete curing needs 24 hours or longer, depending on the thickness of the applied adhesive and the temperature and humidity of the environment.
Precautions:
◆ This adhesive is acidic. When using in large quantities, ventilation should be maintained at the construction site.
◆ Avoid long-term contact between the skin and the sealant. If unvulcanized adhesive accidentally enters the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water or seek medical attention.
◆ Do not put it in your mouth, and do not let children touch it.
◆ Remaining adhesive should be strictly sealed to avoid contact with air and vulcanization.
◆ Transport and store as non-hazardous goods. Store in a low-temperature dry place. Shelf life from production date is more than 6 months.
Different types of glass glue have different usages
In fact, the commonly used glass glue in home decoration can be divided into two types according to its properties: neutral glass glue and acidic glass glue. Many people misunderstand the properties of glass glue and easily use neutral glue instead of acidic glue or vice versa. A person who has been engaged in the sales of glass glue for a long time told reporters that this is currently the biggest problem in the use of glass glue in home decoration. Customers often don't say what they need it for, just say "two bottles", actually there is quite a big difference.
In home decoration, glass glue is generally used in places such as the back edge of wooden lines, sanitary ware, toilets, mirrors in bathrooms, and gaps between washbasins and walls, etc. Different types of glass glue should be used in these places. Neutral glass glue has relatively weak adhesion, usually used in places like the back of bathroom mirrors where strong adhesion is not required. Neutral glass glue is used more in home decoration mainly because it does not corrode objects, while acidic glass glue is usually used at the back edge of wooden lines with very strong adhesion.
Attention should be paid to mold prevention when using glass glue
There is one very important point about using glass glue: mold prevention is crucial. For example, many glass glues are used in bathrooms, which are already very damp and prone to mold, so the glass glue must be mold-resistant. Generally, the bottle of glass glue will indicate this, you must check it. Besides, some poor-quality glass glue doesn't even have such functions, so be sure to recognize this when purchasing.
Don't go for cheap options, quality is key when buying glass glue
The quality of glass glue on the current market varies greatly. A relatively simple way is to judge its quality through brand and price. Try to choose branded glass glue when purchasing, as they have guaranteed quality, especially since their packaging will have detailed product descriptions, making it easier for buyers to differentiate performances.
In terms of price, each bottle of household glass glue generally costs around seven to eight yuan, and better ones cost around 30 yuan per bottle. However, there are also bottles priced at two or three yuan on the market, and the quality of such-priced glass glue is self-evident, so buyers should definitely not go for cheap options when choosing.
Check the instructions when selecting glass glue
It's essential to read the instructions on the glass glue packaging. Sometimes, even products from the same brand may be divided into different series and grades, and the instructions will have annotations, such as grade 5, grade 7, etc. These grades correspond to certain usage ranges and categories. Currently, there is no unified standard for this industry domestically, but foreign brands' glass glue will have a unified standard, for instance, sanitary ware should use grade 7 glass glue.
