"Thirst" is an emotional thriller about inappropriate relationships and obsessive love, telling the story of a respected priest who transforms into a vampire after being infected by a virus due to an accidental incident. It also explores his romance with a married woman young enough to be his daughter. Song Kang-ho plays the priest turned vampire, while TV star Kim Ok-bin portrays the young woman who fatally tempts him. She is a ruthless woman who murders her husband for love. The passionate relationship between the two is the focus of the film. South Korean media believes that Kim Ok-bin will become the "Tang Wei" of Korea through this movie, as their styles indeed share some similarities. Park Chan-wook had previously created a more controversial age-gap pairing with Choi Min-sik and Kang Hye-jung in "Oldboy." In reality, Song Kang-ho and Kim Ok-bin have an age difference of exactly years.
Story Summary: Priest Sang-hyun (Song Kang-ho) participates in a vaccine experiment organized by a secret group with the sacred aspiration of saving all beings. However, during his journey to Africa, he accidentally contracts a deadly virus. To continue the experiment, doctors administered an unverified plasma transfusion to Sang-hyun on the brink of death. Miraculously revived, Sang-hyun develops a strange bloodlust akin to a vampire. He must avoid sunlight and survive by drinking human blood. To avoid killing, Sang-hyun relies solely on pre-existing plasma to sustain life, carefully controlling his desires until he meets Tae-ju (Kim Ok-bin), the wife of his friend Kang-woo (Shin Ha-kyun). With a frail body and an overly indulgent mother (Kim Hae-sook), Kang-woo often vents dissatisfaction on Tae-ju. Witnessing Tae-ju's plight, Sang-hyun falls deeply in love with this desperate yet stubborn woman at first sight. Two lonely and fearful souls soon overcome obstacles to be together. Their union allows Priest Sang-hyun to experience unprecedented pleasure, as if opening the gates of desire. Sang-hyun and Tae-ju betray their family and faith, becoming deeply entangled. When Tae-ju proposes that Sang-hyun help her kill her hateful husband, the love of Sang-hyun, who has always portrayed himself as a savior to others, becomes increasingly疯狂 driven by the motive of murder.
