Lin Yikun, a sixty-year-old owner of a private restaurant, has been in a loving relationship with his wife, Xu Qiumin, for decades. Due to their wise management, they have accumulated a modest fortune. One day, Lin Yikun's brother, Lin Yisong, introduces a new tenant, Lan Xinmei, who rents an empty suite above the restaurant. On the night of her arrival, Lin Yikun enthusiastically welcomes her and personally prepares some dishes. However, during this time, he suddenly suffers a heart attack and passes away. The children of the Lin family are deeply saddened but each has their own ideas about how to divide the inheritance and start anew. Their promises to care for their mother are more in words than in action.

When the will is read, the inheritance is divided into six parts: four children, Qiumin, and the newly arrived tenant, Lan Xinmei, who surprisingly turns out to be one of the beneficiaries. Lin Yisong reveals to everyone that Xinmei is Lin Yikun's illegitimate daughter. Despite her initial exclusion, Xinmei, who lost her mother at a young age and did not know until the reading of the will that the uncle who had cared for her was actually her father, does not hold any grudges against them. With her kind nature and longing for family, she makes every effort to hope that over time, everyone will accept her.

The eldest son, Lin Maosheng, is inherently sincere. Although it is difficult for him to accept Xinmei, he does not agree with the intense actions of his younger siblings. As they interact, Maosheng gradually understands Xinmei, making her realize that he is the only person in the Lin family she can communicate with. Qiumin sees through everyone's motives, gets angry, leaves home, and even falls ill due to resentment. The second daughter, Fang, is stubborn and has multiple conflicts with Qiumin. After marriage, due to fertility issues, she frequently quarrels with her husband, Qian Cheng. Maosheng watches as the family falls apart, coupled with dissatisfaction at work and his wife Zhang Qiang's complaints and suspicions towards him, which leads him to develop feelings for his sympathetic colleague, Han Chaoyun, putting his marriage with Qiang in danger of divorce.

The long-operated restaurant by Lin Yikun faces closure due to poor management. Xinmei uses her inheritance to buy Fang and Qiang's shares and, with Qiumin's support, takes over the restaurant. Qiumin's change in attitude towards Xinmei causes unease among the children, who worry about their interests being threatened. Qiang even uses her cousin, Ding Yufei, to manipulate Xinmei romantically, hoping to undermine her. However, during their interactions, Yufei is attracted to Xinmei's straightforward and honest character, leading to genuine feelings despite interference from his girlfriend, making their relationship more complex.

After numerous twists and turns, the Lin family finally changes their attitude towards Xinmei. Qiumin ultimately realizes that the true legacy left by her husband is not money, but this good daughter, Lan Xinmei.
