American Violet is based on a true story. In a small town in Texas, a 23-year-old African American mother, Di Roberts, was arrested on drug dealing charges based on an unverified testimony. Faced with an agreement: if she admitted to the fabricated charges, she could be released early. Di refused and decided to fight to the end, which would forever change her life and the judicial system of Texas.
