Based on Williams' eponymous play, Blanche DuBois was dismissed from her teaching post due to inappropriate behavior. She had no choice but to stay at her sister's home in New Orleans. Her sister's family lived in a dirty apartment. Both sisters had received old-fashioned Southern education and both married for love. However, the elder sister's marriage was unfortunate. Stella, the younger sister, married Stanley, the son of Polish immigrants. From the moment they met, Blanche and Stanley felt mutual aversion. Stanley thought Blanche was untrustworthy and would have a bad influence on his wife, and his position as the head of the household would be threatened. Blanche thought Stanley was an uneducated Polish hoodlum. During her stay, Blanche met Stanley's friend Mitch. Mitch was kind and liked Blanche. Blanche told Mitch about her husband's unfortunate death. Because he was dissatisfied with Blanche's influence on his wife and friends, Stanley prepared to destroy her. But the pregnant Stella did not allow Stanley to touch her sister. After an investigation, Stanley finally uncovered Blanche's secret - she was not as pure as she claimed. He let Mitch know this secret. Mitch felt deceived, got drunk, and cruelly abandoned Blanche. At this time, Stanley's child was born. He returned home drunk from the hospital and found that Blanche was preparing to elope with her former boyfriend. Under the influence of alcohol, Stanley crazily caught up with Blanche and raped her. Blanche went insane. The final scene of the film is unforgettable: the grieving Stella, the guilty Stanley, and the ashamed Mitch stood by the roadside watching the insane Blanche being dragged away by the mental hospital's car.
